SFE Application

I live with my brother and mum - my brother starting uni in 2025 like me. My mum receives benefits. I also have a sister receiving full student loan and NHS bursary, if this is relevant. I think my sister accesses student loan as an estranged student.

When applying for student finance, does this consider parental income or household income? I'm concerned my income will reduce the amount me and my brother are both entitled to. I'm unsure exactly how much my mum receives through benefits, her sole income, but I am projected to make roughly 17,000-18,000 this tax year.

I'm a full time worker, working up to 52 hours a week, which I obviously won't be able to maintain within university - particularly as I will be on a placement heavy course. Would impact my application, and if reduced, would I be expected to earn alongside my degree to contribute to my brothers living costs?

14,000 of this, is received through a level 3 apprenticeship.

Hi there, how old are you currently? What is your status in the UK? Have you previously studied? (beyond A level's). What is the name of the university you are thinking of applying to? Can you please confirm the exact course title? Is this a Full Time or Part Time course? How many years is the course in total? When are you planning to start your studies? Thank you, Stephen.

Hi there,

If you're studying a level 4 onwards then we'd require your parent(s) details to assess you for the higher amount of maintenance loan - unless you have 3 years of self support prior to the start of your course. We wouldn't use your income details as you're the student so this doesn't need to be declared. Thanks, Jason
