Will I get in trouble for utilising AI for my essay title

Hey, I’ve been using AI to write essay plans for me but everything is in my own words and I’ve incorporated my own ideas as well. However, chat GPT has produced an amazing title that totally fits my essay and I can’t think of anything better. Would I be able to submit my folio discursive essay with the AI title or would this count as cheating?

it's cheating. don't use AI to help you write essays, even if it's only for planning. If you can't think of anything better, a worse title in your own words is better than one chatgpt gave you.

You can do what you want, long story short. However, it is against university policy to use AI for anything and if caught, could face best case scenario, failing the module or worst case scenario, expulsion from the course as you effectively sign a contract when you submit work saying absolutely everything is in your own words.

If you want to take the risk, go for it but I’m just telling you the generic policy as I’ve seen people fail their entire degree because they got lazy or put it off until the last minute. Yes we were warned about using AI in our first lecture during the last academic year (23-24) as I started my Masters course.

I’m perfectly capable of writing a decent title and only use AI for planning such as asking which techniques should I use and how many main body paragraphs I should have depending on the word count (all which my teacher has suggested is very helpful when using AI). I’ll live if I have to write my own title but just wanted to know if all my qualifications would be completely cancelled if I used a title which chat gpt came up with. Any help would be appreciated.

If you are year 2 onwards, yes, you could be removed from the course for serious academic misconduct, including using AI tools to draft, outline or write your specific title.

Year 1 would be more at the discretion of your uni. But not checking its policy on the use of AI tools is not likely to go down well.
