Economics at Loughborough, Lancaster or Surrey? Sept 2025 start.

Would be good to get some opinions on the above 3, right now Loughborough is 1st choice but I am a bit concerned that whilst it's a great Uni, top 10 in pretty much every Uni guide when you look at the subject (Economics) tables it's pretty average and seems to be on a downward slide, dropping every year for the past 5 years! Would be good to get an idea of why it's weak in Economics compared to other subjects and why it's Economics ranking is dropping every year.

Thanks

Because they specialise in sports sciences, not economics, so they probably dedicate more of their funding to other departments. Also uni ranking tables are hardly ever accurate, at lot of unis just pay for higher positions.

Hello @Zac2007

I'm glad to hear that you are considering Lancaster as one of your options to study Economics. At Lancaster we offer both BSc and BA Economics. For economics at Lancaster we consistently rank pretty high in the league tables, ranking 9th for Graduate Prospects in The Guardian, 10th for Satisfaction with Teaching also in The Guardian, and 10th overall for Economics By The Times and Sunday Times University Guide.

At Lancaster you can also take minors in different subjects including accounting, finance, politics and international relations. This is a really great option if you want to diversify your education and really tailor it to your liking.

I myself do no study Economics at Lancaster but I would really recommend speaking to our students that do, you can access them HERE and ask them any questions you have about their experience.

If you have any further questions, please feel free to respond below.

Taylor (Lancaster Uni Student Ambassador).
