How do I get a HCPC??????

Hi,
I've got a bachelors in animal biology and current doing masters in clinical and molecular microbiology. I want to go into diagnostics and saw I needed a HCPC which you get in related BSc, which I didn't do. My masters is an accredited IBMS but, I cannot find a way to get a HCPC without having a BSc in biomedical related subjects.

You need to submit your current BSc to the IBMS via this process: https://www.ibms.org/registration/degree-assessment-for-hcpc-registration/

The MSc has no relevance to gaining HCPC registration. I have a feeling that an animal biology BSc will need quite a few top up modules and it isn't possible to use a student loan to fund these.

Just to expand on catch up modules: when the IBMS review your qualifications if you don't meet the standard they will list what you need to reach it, what catch up modules you need to complete. There are a number of ways to do this, but locally where I work fellow Associate Practitioners do catch up modules at a distance from Ulster University and they're actively supported by the department with the lab work and other assessments they need.

There are some caveats: the IBMS has recently imposed a 10 year cut off point on the age of degrees they will consider and its quite possible that if your base degree would need lots of catch up modules that the assessor will say that its not feasible and you will need to do a full accredited degree.

That's the situation I find myself in: I have a 20 year old Zoology degree, a more recent IT degree from the OU and a post graduate qualification. After a chat with an assessor I found out my Zoology degree is too old and the others too irrelevant. So I'm off to Cardiff Met this September to study Healthcare Science (Biomedical Science + the clinical training you need to register with the HCPC straight away as a BMS rather than having to find a trainee BMS post first).
