student finance and identification

I don't have a valid passport anymore and will not have one until probably next year. How do I go about signing up for student finance? Will it take longer for my student finance to verify?

Hi there, do you have access to your birth certificate? Once an application has been submitted, UK nationals can submit a copy of their UK Birth/Adoption Certificate (long or short) via their online account for confirmation of identity.
