Oxbridge Medicine

Hi,
Do people who take either Maths, physics, further maths and get A*s have a advantage over those who take either History, psychology, English and get A* int heir A levels( of course both alongside bio and chem) so does taking essay based subjects as opposed to science and maths subjects make me a less preferable candidate ?

Are you looking to apply to Cambridge?

Are you aware that all Med degrees are accredited as equal and all follow exactly the same GMC accredited syllabus - ie. there is no 'better course' and the NHS wont care where you trained, and neither will your future patients.

Go to some Open Days over the next few months at a range of different Unis, you have 4 Med choices so look at all options and not just Cambridge.

Whilst they all must meet GMC standards, medical courses can still vary quite substantially. Some cover much more detail in certain areas etc.

For Cambridge, you need Chemistry, then 2 others from Bio/Phys/Maths/Further Maths. For Oxford, you need Chemistry, and at least one from Bio/Phys/Maths.

Realistically, if you want to go to Oxford or Cambridge for medicine, I would do 3 science/maths A Levels.

3 science is a bad idea. best one is 2 science and maths or u could add further maths onto it aswell

My daughter’s school friend is taking Chemistry, Biology, Maths and got Oxford offer, so the 3rd sciences is not completely necessary
