Hi there,
Thank you for your questions! As I am only a first year student at Urdang, I will be answering from the perspective of a first year.

1.

For your first question, students train Monday to Friday within the hours of 8:30am - 7:00pm, with breaks throughout the day. For first years, students receive an average of 6 - 7.5 hours of training a day.

2.

The amount of students per year group varies each year, but in my current first year class there is 180 students, and around 17 people in each class.

3.

First years do get one-to-one singing, but only in the second term (starting January).

4.

Dance styles for first-years include: ballet, tap, musical theatre jazz, tech jazz, horton, street, and contemporary.

5.

For the 2nd and 3rd year streams, it is chosen by each student, however the school can help influence their decision to help pick what will benefit the student the most.

Please let me know if you have anymore questions!!

Thank you

Each week has around 11 hours of dance, 5 hours of singing, and 2.5 hours of acting. We also have 2.5 hours of Integrated Performance (IP) which includes dancing, singing, and acting, as well as 2.5 hours of voice classes, and a few hours dedicated toward contextual studies.

Ah thank you so much Jenna, it sounds amazing! Hope you are enjoying it at Urdang! Do you know much about the optional term 3/summer showcase for BA students and how much it costs? Also can Urdang students apply for City St George’s/University of London Halls? Did you find it easy to find accommodation? Thanks so much

Of course, thank you for your questions!! Urdang is incredible, and I am enjoying it very much, thank you 😄.

Term 3/ summer showcase is mandatory, however there is no extra cost. It is apart of the course, and just as important as the two terms before. I believe the 'optional' part you are thinking of is the classes students can take throughout this term. For Term 3, Urdang offers many different class options that allows students to create their own timetable, and train in various styles. They can choose to do as many or as little classes they like, at no extra cost. During this period, students will also have rehearsals for summer show!

As Urdang is a part of City St George's, University of London, students get access to everything the university has to offer, including the student accommodations! There are 3 student halls that most Urdang students stay at: Cross Court House, Arbour House, and Romano Court. You can find more information about each accommodation here! These student halls are incredibly accommodating to Urdang student's, and try their best to keep Urdanger's together (eg. in the same flat's/ same floor). I am currently staying at Cross Court House, and I love it very much, however the other Hall's are just as great. It's all up to personal preference!
Once prospective student's have accepted their offer to Urdang, they will then receive an email explaining all the information about Hall's including how to apply.

I hope I was able to answer your questions! Please let me know if you have anymore 😊

Best,
Jenna

Hi there!
For Recall Auditions, Urdang will typically take 1-2 weeks to share the audition results. The outcome can either be successful, unsuccessful, or wait listed.
Let me know if you have anymore questions 😄

Hi Jenna,

Thank you for this post.

My daughter has just received an offer for a place on the BA course at Urdang! 🎉🍾

Someone has suggested to her that most Urdang students live at Arbour House, and some at Cross Court but not many live at Romano Court. Is this the case? Obviously the plus plus points for Romano are price and proximity to the mainline station, but I wouldn't want her to be there if there aren't many of her Urdang peers there?

And this is a very "mum" question - but what do you do about grocery shopping? We live in a small town where there are lots of large supermarkets nearby? I'm guessing it's only small grocery shops and small branches of Superstores in the Islington area? Obviously she won't have a car.

Thanks so much.
Carole

We are looking at accommodation for urdang. The three unite student accommodations Cross Court House, Arbour House, and Romano Court all have really bad google reviews 😭 does anyone have any honest opinions and first hand experience with these? Accommodation offered by other companies in the area have better reviews but are much more expensive. Does anyone have any advise about accommodation in the area?

I have the same questions as you Carole

Hi,

It sounds like we are on a similar quest to find the best options for accommodation. I have now had a very helpful chat with the accommodation team at City. The guy that I spoke to said that for the last two years the majority of Urdang students chose Romano. There are two reasons for this. The first is price (shared bathrooms rather than en suits mean a lower price). The second is that Urdang students often come in small groups of two or more who already know each other (presumably through doing the same BTEC / Foundation courses) and so like to share a flat. He advised me that when they apply for accommodation if they put each other's names down as flat mates - this will be accommodated and they will be grouped together. Apparently Romano flats come with three to six bedrooms and have either two or three bathrooms. So it just depends whether the student would rather an en suite with a kitchen shared between a large number of rooms, or are happy to sacrifice the en suite for a more private shared flat.

Hi, thanks for your message.
How can I contact the accommodation team?
My daughter got an offer to study MT at Urdang too. We are just looking for an affordable accommodation. My daughter does not know nobody going to Urdang yet.
Do you know how far is the cheapest halls to Urdang? Do students have to catch bus/ tube? Because if yes this is another expense. Plus where do students shop ? Are there any bigger shops? Like sainsbury's or asda, lidl? Probably not. I have to start investigating but advice from people that already live there could be a great help.

Hi Jenna, how likely is a wait list offer likely to turn into reality? With other offers on the table I would really like to make a decision... Does Urdang hold many on the wait list? I really don't like the idea of waiting and not being able to secure accommodation....

Hi Carole,

Congratulations to your daughter!! How exciting!! 🥳

Thank you for your question. I would say that is not necessarily the case. In my year and previous years, it has been pretty equal between the amount of Urdang students at each accommodation, so I would assume that next year will be quite similar. The three student accommodations have dedicated spots reserved for Urdang students. They also try their best to keep Urdangers together. For example, at Cross Court, most of the 4th floor is Urdang students, and similarly in Romano and Arbour, they keep Urdang students in the same flats. So no matter the accommodation you choose, you are guaranteed to be with other Urdang peers!

In regards to your second question, there are many grocery shops near Urdang and the accommodations that make it quite accessible to get food and other necessities. While they are mostly small grocery shops, there are bigger grocery stores in walking distance from all of the accommodations. Old Street has an ALDI, Co-op, and M&S that are a fairly decent size. In Angel there is also a fairly large Sainsbury's, M&S, and Waitrose, along with other grocery stores.
On top of that, there is a small Co-op, and Sainsbury's near Urdang that are perfect if you want a quick snack or lunch between classes. Overall, everything is very accessible and in walking distance!

I hope I was able to answer your questions, and please feel free to reach out if you have any more! Congratulations again to your daughter, and hopefully I will see her next year! 😄

Hi there,

No, it is not too late to apply! It is recommended to submit your application by mid-April, however Urdang may keep them open longer then that. All of the application instructions can be found here: How to Apply - Urdang. Please let me know if you have any other questions! Best of luck! 😄
