Potential Medical applicant Year 12

Hi guys
I want to apply to medicine at some Universities but my gcses were extremely average : 8 in english language , 7 in english literature , 8 in religious studies , 8 in french , 7 in mathematics , 7 in geography , 7 in sociology , 6 in Biology , 6 in Physics and a 7 in chemistry (1 mark off a 7) but i couldn’t afford the remark 😕😕. Since im at a disadvantage for applying to medicine is there any point ? Should I just aim for Universities that put UCAT scores highly and interviews (if i get a high UCAT score ).

I got very similar GCSEs and applied strategically to unis that didn’t really look at GCSEs (or just had to pass) and I’ve had 3/3 interviews and 2/3 offers (waiting to hear back from third).
As long as your predicted grades are really strong and you have a good ucat you will be fine. Apply for unis which don’t particularly look at GCSEs (not Cardiff for example) and apply to ones that put more emphasis on the stronger areas of your application.

I got a 7 in gcse chemistry and am struggling a lot with alevel- make sure to put the work in at the start as I neglected it and am now finding it really difficult in year 13. If you work hard and stay on top of the content you’ll be fine.

Make sure to get some work experience to see if you would enjoy medicine as a career too!!

Overall, don’t let your GCSEs put you off applying, like I said I got all my interviews and hopefully all my offers and my grades were basically the same as yours. Like me, it might mean you have to put a bit more work into alevel to get strong predicted grades and if you apply strategically I’m sure you’ll smash it!

I was the same, just do loads of past paper questions and make notes on all the content, I didn’t make any notes in y12 so now am kind of stuck. Make sure to also ask your teachers for help!
