Picking a firm/insurance for History

Hey 👋

I’m really struggling to pick a firm and insurance from the 5 offers I hold. I’ve visited each of the unis and chose them based on the courses and how much I liked them at open day. They all have entry requirements below my predicted grades but they are the places I felt most “at home” when I visited. I would love to hear how others made their final choices, what influenced you or opinions on the following unis - Lancaster, UEA, Loughborough, Leicester and Lincoln.

Thanks!

Have you put together a pros and cons list for each of your choices?
If you share that it might help other people understand your priorities better to help you make the right choice for you.

The good news is:
a) you've got plenty of time to make a decision
and
b) you said you felt at home and like the course at all five - that means there is NO bad choice here!

Look very closely at the course structure and the optional modules. What would you hope to be studying in each term/semester? Do any of the courses stand out?
Hi @Lemmii ,

Lovely to hear you felt at home with Lancaster! Are you thinking of the three-year BA Hons History undergraduate degree, or perhaps a degree with a placement year or study abroad? I'm sure you've seen it already, but a link for all our History undergraduate degrees: history department .

As ageshallnot said, I would write down or screenshot the modules and compare them, see which pique your interest the most. Whether or not you have plans for after graduation yet, you may want to consider work opportunities - at Lancaster, we offer Heritage Work Placements, a second-year credit-bearing placement module with a range of sponsors that could provide insight into different careers (linked HWP for further detail). As a Business student, I can't speak personally on the degree itself, but you can speak to current students on Unibuddy here .

Personally, I chose Lancaster based on a number of personal factors - how interesting I thought the modules would be, how comfortable I felt in Lancaster as opposed to Manchester, Liverpool, Leeds and Uclan, etc. Depending on what's important for you, you could list comparisons, make a point system etc. What's right for you is something you know best. And if you end up not loving the university? There are genuinely always other paths, don't worry too much.

Wishing you all the best! If you have more questions, do feel free to ask.

Hi @Lemmii
Congratulations on all of your offers!
As other ambassadors have already mentioned, I would recommend looking at the difference between the courses at each university and picking a university whose modules interest you most.
Another factor I considered was the distance away from home, personally I live about 3 hours away from home, which i find is a nice balance between independence and whilst still being able to visit home during term time. However, this is a completely personal decision, some people like living closer to home and visiting home more regularly, whilst others live further away and visit during the holidays, it really depends on what works for you.
It's really nice to hear that you felt at home at Lancaster, personally one of the things I love most about Lancaster is the real community feel that the university and the city both have. I think this is really helped by college system which acts as a smaller community on campus and a great way to make friends in 1st year, but also due to the friendly and helpful nature of Lancaster, most people are willing to go the extra mile to each other with academic studies and everything else in between, which is really nice.
Wishing you all the best in your decisions and starting university!
