Engineering at York vs Exeter vs KCL

I am torn between these options as none were my first choice and I just applied to them without much thought. I have heard some things about KCL (kinda dropping off in terms of ranking and ppl don't want to hire from them). I am unsure of Exeter and York in general... don't really have an opinion on either. Please let me know of any experiences or which you think would be better. I don't actually want to go into engineering. I will probably do a conversion course after the degree to law or banking. It is purely an interest and to have something additional under my belt.

All great universities just depends on how much debt you want to get into living in those cities

YES... I know. I didn't consider that when choosing since it was all rather flippant... I wasn't bothered about where I went but, of course, now I have to choose. However, I am very antisocial so at least I won't have to worry about additional fees in that area.

If you’re antisocial KCL is probs the best London is busy and gets very lonely as a lot of people commute so you’ll have all the time to yourself that you’d need

Hahah, yes. That is pretty much all I am going off at the moment. KCL is at the top of my list, at the moment, but people keep telling me that it is a bad uni so I don't know what to do.

It’s not a bad uni academically wide but university can get depressing at you sure you want to continue being introverted ?

Well hahaha I am introverted by choice. I am very good at speaking to people in a professional setting but I don't particularly enjoy socialising.

Exeter appears best for this of these.

Going to visit tomorrow - my mind is becoming more open to Exeter
If you have no interest in engineering then you are best off not studying, if you’re interested in commercial law or financial services careers you’re better off just studying law or economics or accounting & finance…

Ultimately you will be expected to have a basic understanding of corporate accounting & valuations etc. for financial services and its not easy to just pivot, graduate employers expect relevant internships and CV that demonstrates interest over a period of time.

I am very interested in Engineering. I do not wish to pursue it as a career. I am studying the subject purely in pursuit of knowledge.

Update: I went to visit Exeter... surprisingly, I'm rather fond of the uni now. Nice campus. I expected it to be more modern but it isn't which is most definitely a plus. The town is MASSIVE and students absolutely everywhere.

Exeter was very fortunate in that it was a rare case of a post WW2 UK university being founded in the 1950s rather than the 1960s. The 1950s featured some quite classically inspired architecture. I know Exeter's not all like that but it looks a lot better than the science park/service station aesthetic throughout of some 60s universities.

Pragmatically you’re better off studying finance or similar and then enjoying engineering through things like MIT open courses, or the open university or even subscribing to professional engineering magazines.
If you’re serious about a career in front office financial services you will need to start applying for spring weeks around October of 1st year to give yourself the best shot at a second year internship, which is the pipeline for most graduate roles. Additionally if you’re interested in the most competitive banking firms definitely go to KCL, its not a target but still has an excellent reputation. You will need to be networking so London location will help, and a relevant finance degree will massively help you with the right vocabulary for interviews.
