University of Edinburgh warns of staff cuts as it faces £140m financial deficit | University of Edinburgh | The Guardian

Yes - because it will have an impact on Student Services as thats usually where the staff cuts are made, and this sort of stuff has a big impact on overall staff morale,

Mostly RG ironically - its because historically they have been far too reliant on international fee payers, and have also over expanded in the last 10 years.

It's probably about time fee's are set accordingly to the subjects.

I thought they charged international students more money? And if that’s the case why are they having a financial difficulties? Please enlighten me. And is this going to affect the veterinary school as well?

The government has also recently announced major National Insurance hikes so costs employers much more money than it did before. Yes international students pay more but uni’s do not get enough money per Scottish/RUK students. nearly all are finding financial situation a challenge.

There are far fewer International students than there used to be - especially postgrads - and this used to subsidise the cost of UK students. Now it doesnt. Hence course slashing and job cuts.

That is terrible to hear. I hope they can work something out. No one should lose their jobs.

I’m sorry I did not mean to upset anyone by asking my question. I was just sincerely curious. My daughter will be an international student if she’s accepted at Edinburgh and they already quoted us £39,700k a year for her tuition if she is is accepted. This is not including her living expenses if she attends. So I get it I understand.

no upset caused, there is not one reason it is a combination, unis don’t get enough money from government to cover uk students, rising costs of everything including heating/electic, less international students (not helped by Brexit) then most recent thing is increase in national insurance for employers, which is affecting many businesses (not just universities). I would imagine vet school would be ok as not many in Scotland but no idea. Good luck to your daughter!

At this time, Edinboro University's tuition, scholarships, housing, and research program expenses have not been affected by the budget cuts. So you don't have to worry too much about the University of Edinburgh's finances when considering studying at the University of Edinburgh.
