Rules on throwing parties?

It's my birthday next week and I've invited 25 (now 30) people to my flat to celebrate. Have technically called it a 'get-together' since it's basically just me introducing the different people I know to each other, but I'm worried about a. having that many people in my flat and b. it being shut down. In our halls agreement it already says no parties, but I'm not really sure what that qualifies as... I've already been told to turn the music down and shut the windows before, so I know that the security around our accomodation are relatively aware of people keeping it down. My kitchen's also really spacious but I'm still worried about actually having that many people round.

TLDR: how many people have you had round when you've been to/thrown parties? What's the best way to make sure we don't all get kicked out? Thanks

Hello pinkapoppy,

Have you tried to contact the accommodation team at your university, explaining this to them, and asking them whether this is allowed or not?

I would strongly advise against hosting such event without checking with them first. Also remember (assuming that you're not in a studio) that you're sharing a kitchen, they'll be other people who will likely need to use the kitchen.

You could instead try and see if there are places that you can book or rent out for the day to host your birthday if you're this worried about breaking your contract.

Best wishes,

Honestly, I would do it somewhere else based on what you describe - ie music (and I assume booze). Even if you just all meet at the local Spoons

I had an unplanned party in my second year, a couple of dozen people (possibly more, I don't remember) got a bit carried away and I got thrown out of halls - though that was (IMO) an over reaction to some folks climbed out of my bedroom window on to the (flat) roof to party up there. There were no serious injuries or anything
25+ people in a flat is almost certainly not acceptable because if nothing else it's most likely a fire hazard to have that many people in a small place like a student flat.

Also are all the other people living in that flat happy with it? I'd probably be put out if a flatmate had a party with 5 or so people all night in halls, much less over 20!

Go to the pub or take some cheap cider to the park.
Unless of course you actually want to be homeless next week.
