How many poems do I need to know for English lit

Hi I’m doing power and conflict aqa and how many poems do you recommend I learn IN DETAIL? (obviously will go over all of them a bit)

I recommend learning 2 easy ones that you will remember and that links to quite a lot of poems that's what I'm currently doing.

personally, im learning 3-4 because then i can cover all the themes more easily and even if one of the poems i learn comes up as printed, you still have options. because if you just learn two, they probably wont be comparable and worst case one of them comes up, you wont have anything to say.

honestly i don’t have an answer but i can tell you my personal experience
i did love and relationships 2 years ago but wasn’t very organised with my revision. i was running out of time so i just learnt my four favourite poems that i thought covered a wide range of possibilities and meant i was sorted.
i forgot that the poems i revised could also come up and thats exactly what happened. i panicked and realised my other three poems weren’t the best comparisons, and i didnt remember any others
i got a 9 in the end but you do not want to end up in that scenario. try and learn them all, and cover all themes with the ones you learn in detail so you can make good comparisons no matter what comes up

I did love and relationships, and I think learned 5 or 6 in detail. just make sure that you have at least two poems for each theme that could come up, so if one of them is the one chosen for the exam you still have another in that topic to compare it to.

My personal advice would be to learn some of them in groups, based on similar themes, which may help with your comparative question. I'd suggest either 5 groups of 3 or 3 groups of 5 in terms of splitting them.
