When do I need to start looking for a room in halls?

I am waiting for one further decision from UAL and also have to figure out scholarships in my home country. I know, the earlier I start looking for a room, the better. But when do I really have to start looking (I am on a tight budget and need a "cheap" room)?

Hi Giger, the availability of housing depends on the university you’re planning to attend. I began searching for housing in Manchester in January, and unfortunately, many of the more affordable and desirable options had already been sold out. If possible, try to secure a place as soon as possible. However, ensure that the contract includes a clause that allows you to get your money back if you don’t get into the university you’re hoping for.

Thanks a lot, Lxteishx, for this explanation! I did not know that there are contracts that include such a clause. I plan to apply for UAL halls in London. Have other UAL hall residents seen such clauses in their contracts?

thanks, ageshallnot, but this website does not show actual contracts. I just found the sentences: "For UAL Managed Halls, you can log into the student accommodation portal to request a cancellation before the tenancy start date. Please note that charges will apply depending on when you request the cancellation. For our Partner Halls, please refer to the cancellation policy in your tenancy agreement. The cancellation procedure will differ from UAL Managed Halls."
Does anybody know how much these charges would be?

Hi Giger,

It’s never too soon to start looking for accommodation at university as the rooms do get booked quickly. Are you able to have university halls accommodation? This would be worthwhile checking on with the university that you are planning to attend. Look at the university website accommodation page for this information and if you are not sure, I would definitely get in touch with the accommodation department as they will be able to give you specific advice and help you find a room.

At Chester university, you tend to apply for the accommodation once you have received the offer from the university. The university does give you a prompt to apply and will state when it is able to start taking the bookings for the rooms.

I think the first step for you would be to contact your chosen university and then take it from there,

I hope this helps,

Ask the accommodation team at UAL.
