And how exactly do you intend to measure 'academics'.

Hi Ramare23,

Great to hear that you've received an offer from the University of Exeter - congratulations!

You'll find more information for the course online at this webpage here and for the wider Exeter Business School here.

There are lots of different ways you might decide which university is the best for you, including by various rankings of academic performance, research output, and league table rankings. For example, one thing you might consider is the graduate prospects available to you after completing the course, where Exeter's course was recently ranked 1st in the Complete University Guide 2025 (ranking available here). Or you might instead decide to sort by research quality, where you'd see Exeter is 6th in the UK.

However, I wouldn't recommend solely relying on metrics such as these to make your decision of where to study, as it can sometimes be quite opaque how these rankings are calculated, and the differences within league tables can be quite minor - e.g. the difference from 4th to 12th in the research quality rankings is only 2%. Make sure to also consider the course content of the different degrees - i.e. do they offer modules in the specific topics of accountancy and finance that you're interested in, and are there any extra opportunities such as support for placement years or access to internships throughout the degree.

You might also like to get insight from current students from within the Business School, which you can do so at the University of Exeter via our Unibuddy chat platform here, or by visiting at an upcoming offer-holder open day (the details of which should have been sent to you via email).

Although you've mentioned not being interested in nightlife or societies, still consider the location of the university you'll be going to. Would you prefer to be in a large city like London, or somewhere smaller such as Exeter. Do you prefer a city or a campus university? How important might proximity to home and ease of transport be to you, for example during the Christmas or summer holidays?

I hope that's helpful, and perhaps given you more to consider with your choice of where to study, but please don't hesitate to get in touch if you have any further questions.

I visited both queen Mary and Exeter and queen Mary is very prestigious and highly-ranked. It will also have a good nightlife due to it being in London. Exeter is really pretty and has a good student atmosphere and I know due to 30% of the student population being from upper/middle class backgrounds their accounting/business dept is quite prestigious and academic but a lot of students with prior knowledge and a family background in business and investments
