Hi, sorry you didn’t get in this time. Do you think contacting the uni admissions team and asking the reason would be a good idea to help you prepare for next year?

And for next years application maybe try getting some experience even volunteering as a healthcare assistant or first responder?

Also could be a good idea to become and ambulance attendant I think the training is 6 months for that. Maybe even try shadow a paramedic and you could ask them to be your referee for your next UCAS reference.

Even doing relevant courses like Pre-Hospital Emergency Care or first aid could help your application next year.

Best of luck with it next year!

Paramedic Sciences is a very tough course to be accepted into as it is such a small cohort so don't be discouraged and you should absolutely use this year to improve and try applying next year.

I would definitely look to gain more experience in the field for next year, you can do this by trying to volunteer with organisations like St. John Ambulance or even a job as a healthcare assistant, even participating in first aid and CPR course can help you gain the skills that they look for on this course. You should also look to connect with current students studying Paramedic Sciences for advice for your next interview.

Just use this time to gain more experience and improve. Good luck!!

Hi mate, I got rejected my first time applying as well but fortunately got a place the following year, sorry to hear you didn’t. When writing your personal statement do not focus too much on what your experience is because it irrelevant they don’t care because they train you from scratch, it’s nice to volunteer and give it a mention but don’t focus too much on it, I don’t volunteer for anything. I have no previous healthcare experience except a year on another course, it’s ok to mention a little on experience but don’t get too bogged down on it. Instead, focus on demonstrating how your values, standards and personal attributes align with the paramedic profession. Get your head into the person centred framework because the entire profession/degree is built upon person centredness, as should all health care professions. Make sure you start that personal statement with why you want to be a paramedic ie. “I want to be a paramedic because….” Or something along them lines, it’s unlikely they will even read it if it doesn’t, you have to remember there’s 700 personal statement for a small amount of people to read through so make every sentence count, you really need to demonstrate how you’re perfect for the role because they’re trying to fill the profession with top class paramedics who actually ******* care about what they do and above all really put emphasis on how much you want it, because that’s the sort of people that will make great paramedics. If I think of anything else il post it.
