Home fees

I turn 18 on 3rd march 2025. My university course starts on 15 September 2035.

I think I qualify for home fees under long residence category in the UKCISA rules.

The rules basically say that if I am over 18 when the course starts, I would have to live atleast half of my life in the UK.

I first entered UK on 4th May 2016 and left UK on 19th June 2016. Re entered UK on 19th November 2016 and have been living here since

This is my calculation:
days since birth (3 march 2007) till my first entry to UK (4 may 2016)= 3351 days
Days since birth till the start of the course = 6771 days

Half of this is approx 3385 days
Days I have lived in UK since 4 may 2016 till start of course= 3421 days
This is more than half of my life

So I believe I should be able to qualify for home fees this way

I need some feedback whether I am correct about this or not so pls have a look at the UKCISA rules...

Hi I had a quick look and it says:

ii) aged 18 years old or above and, preceding the first day of the first academic year of the course, have lived in the UK throughout either:
(aa) half your life; or
(bb) a period of twenty-years;

Given the "throughout" I believe you start your calculation on 19th November 2016, how many days will that total?

Very best of luck!

Thank you for your reply !

Why can't I calculate from my very first entry (4th may 2016) which was on a dependent visa . Went back (due to my parents work) for a few months and re entered with the same dependent visa.

Hi it might be that you can it is certainly worth checking with them. My reading of the policy above is that the 'throughout' implies you should not have left during that time but there may be some leniency for holidays etc
