Not enough credits

So I’m in my final year and due to hopefully graduate this summer. However I failed an an accredited module in my second year which I’m worried about. Would I still be allowed to graduate if I pass the rest of my courses or would I not gain enough credits and what happens then?

Every university has different rules and regulations for this type of scenario. Which uni are you at?

Generally speaking you'd need to achieve 120 credits each year. However you say that "failed an an accredited module in my second year" - yet were allowed to progress to third year. How come? Were the credits condoned (meaning they were awarded despite failing the module)? We're the credits trailed (meaning the requirement to gain those credits were carried forward to this year)? Or something else?

Hey,

It’s completely understandable to feel worried about this, especially so close to graduation. The best thing to do right now is check your university’s regulations on credit requirements and speak to your academic advisor, personal tutor, or course leader to get clarity on your situation.

At most universities, accredited modules are often required to pass the course, so failing one could impact your ability to graduate. However, universities sometimes offer options like compensation, reassessment, or an opportunity to retake the module. It really depends on your institution’s policies. If you haven’t already, you might want to check your university’s handbook or student services for information on what happens when a core or accredited module is failed.

If you don’t have enough credits to graduate with the full degree, your university may offer alternatives like an exit award (such as a diploma or ordinary degree), or they might allow you to retake the module in the summer or the next academic year so you can still achieve your intended qualification.

Since this is something that could directly affect your graduation, it’s worth speaking to someone at your university as soon as possible, they’ll be able to give you a clear answer and let you know your options. If your university has a support service similar to Salford’s AskUs, they might be able to provide guidance as well. Hope it all works out for you!

Best of luck!
