Nope you can do physics instead of maths but personally i love maths more than physics and maths can open doors into other fields like economics etc. but usually unis like imperial will require maths and physics for biomedical engineering or any general engineering.

You shouldn’t be cooked. Most universities don’t require maths for biotech or biomedical engineering I don’t think. Still, check the entry requirements for the universities you might apply to, as some may prefer a maths a level. I think most ask for you to be doing 2 sciences, so you should be good.

Hey there,

You’re definitely not cooked if you’re taking Biology, Physics, and Chemistry but don’t have A-level Maths! Many universities accept students for Biotechnology or Biomedicine without A-level Maths, especially since you have both Biology and Chemistry, which are the most important subjects for these degrees.

From my understanding, (for Biomedicine) You should be fine for most universities since Biology and Chemistry are the key requirements. (For Biotechnology) some universities prefer or require Maths, but many will still accept you with strong science subjects. It’s worth checking specific course requirements.

Rooting for you!

Hi there,

Don't worry! There are PLENTY of Universities that don't require Maths A-level for Biotechnology or Biomedical degrees
I've had a quick look and just added a few examples of Unis across the UK with different entry requirements, that DON'T require Maths:

BSc Biotechnology:
Birmingham - AAB
Edge Hill - BBB-BBC
Imperial College London - AAA
Manchester - AAA-AAB
Nottingham - BBB-BBC
York - AAB

BSc Biomedical Science:
Aberystwyth - BBB-BBC
Birmingham (BCU) - BBC
Birmingham (UOB) - AAB
Chester - BBC-BCC
Keele - AAB
Kent - BBC-BCC
Kings College London - AAA
Lancaster - AAB
Queen's Belfast - AAB-ABB
Sheffield - AAB
Strathclyde - BBB
Surrey - AAB-BBB

LJMU options:
BSc Biotechnology - BBB-BCC
BSc (Hons) Biotechnology | Undergraduate course | Liverpool John Moores University

BSc Biomedial Sciences - ABB-BBC

Accredited by IBMS (necessary to become a practising BMS in NHS)

BSc (Hons) Biomedical Science | Undergraduate course | Liverpool John Moores University

Hope this eases your mind a bit! Good luck

Hi @!!!nnnnm

No you don't need maths to study a lot of biomed/biotech courses. Lancaster has a Biomedicine and biomedical science course that both don't require maths and those subjects that you study are absolutely fine. The entry requirements are AAB currently. I study biomed at Lancaster Uni and I like the course, you get a lot of lab experience and skills! If you have any questions about Lancaster University or the biomed course I am available on the unibuddy to directly contact me here https://www.lancaster.ac.uk/study/chat/?popcardRedirectData=P2RlZ3JlZT01ZGRiZGFjM2I2MTczMTAyMWE4OTJhOGImbGFiZWw9QmlvbWVkaWNhbCUyMFNjaWVuY2U%3D&ub_medium=product&ub_source=University%20Popcard&ub_campaign=&ub_content=

Hope that helps,

I really wanna ask you if there are any biomedicine apprenticeships since you said you do biomedicine.

i personally struggled a lot with A-level physics more than math so If i were you i would go with math but it really depends on your strength. If you feel more confident on doing physics than math than i think should take physics a levels with bio and chem

Hi there,

I did medical biology as my undergraduate degree and did Biology, Chemistry and English literature. For biomedicine or biotech, you need at least one A-Level in science (mostly biology). I also knew someone who did History, French and Biology at uni and went on to study Biomedical Science. You are not cooked!

However, I would suggest looking at the requirements for the courses you want to take at the universities you are interested in, just to confirm!

Hope this helps!
