45% on first module, 68% on second module. Is a first or 2:1 still possible?

Hello,
I am currently doing a top up year at Arden university (Online) and received a 45 on my first module (did not use enough theoretical frameworks) and a 68 on a different module. I still have 4 more modules to go before I receive my Bachelor. All modules are weighted the same and only the final year grades count towards my distinction. Is a 2:1 or even 1st still possible and how will this 45 affect my masters applications, do admissions only look at the final distinction or also look at each module individually?

Kind Regards

Likely you could've asked chatgpt for the calculations i've just done. Not bad for wake-up maths 😂

Summary:

You need an avg. on the 4 future mods of _ for _
- 62% for a 2:1
- 77% for a first

Formulae for when you complete future mods:
- Getting a first:
100 x (4.2 - (sum of percentages)/100))/number of modules to complete = average needed on future modules

- Getting a 2:1
100 x (3.6 - (sum of percentages)/100))/number of modules to complete = average needed on future modules

Working out:

0.45 + 0.68 = 1.13

To get a 2:1 you need 0.6 x 6. = 3.6 as a minimum sum overall
(3.6-1.13)/(6-2) = 2.47/4 = 0.6175 = 0.62 i.e 62%

To get a first you need 0.7 x 6 = 4.2 as a minimum sum overall
(4.2-1.13)/(6-2) = 3.07/4 = 0.7675 = 0.77 i.e 77%

I'm glad someone else has done the maths for you 🙂 The good news is when I did my MSc Psychology at Arden over 2 years, my grades gradually improved over the assignments based on the great feedback I got. I started with 58 on my first assignment, and was soon hitting 66+ plus and got a few 70's in the end, I got 67 in the end.

What is interesting from a quality point of view, is that I have done post graduate study twice before, and on all three courses (across three different Universities) I ended up with 67 on all 3, which I think says a lot about the standard of the marking

Good luck with the rest of your studies - don't forget to check out the MA / MSc courses also available
