Placement Issues

I am currently repeating year 1 at UNI i however applied for a placement and got it.
the placement will be for one year.
1 do i take the placement and go for a study leave
2 do i let the company know and potentially lose the opportunity
also can i have answers on how this would affect my degree

placements are usually for 3rd year students on a 4 year degree and the majority of companies require their applicants to be in their second year at the time of applying. however, some univeristies may allow tyou to defer a year to complete the placement and then return to uni and continue with your degree (so going into your second year of study). because your offical degree doesnt require a placement it would essentially show as a 'gap year' but many people have this, where they have taken a year out to complete a placement (and gain some work experience through a placement year) and then return to complete their studies. i am not sure if this is the case at all universities but it is worth asking your uni about.

Depends on the course imo.

Did the description of the job say you have to be in your penultimate year of studying? If so then they’ll take the offer back because you’re not in second year. And you can’t escape that because the company always contacts the uni to make sure you’ve completed it, my uni had to confirm mine before I started and it’s a long process with different documents. So it basically can’t be done by word of mouth

Hi there,

As a student who is currently on placement, I really advise you to let them know. It is usually explicitly mentioned in the placement offer that you must be in your second year and return to university after completing a placement.

Let me know if you have any questions,
Ilya
