Not only do you get to learn about the history of psychology, human personality and the treatment and recognition of mental disorders. But, you also get to develop professionally by learning about the essential skills needed to be a future psychologist through various psychologists delivering talks and partaking in micro placement/placement programs.

Let’s start the conversation by replying to any of the following questions below:

2) How are you feeling about starting University?
3) How did you find the application process?

To stay up to date, all the latest information can be found on the website: BSc (Hons) Psychology Degree City St George's, University of London

Hi! I’ve received my offer from City UoL and am currently deciding whether to choose it as my first choice or insurance. I have got a couple of questions to ask. 1. How research-based is the course at this university? 2. I have seen that the uni offers a placement year or opportunity to study year abroad, but couldn’t find their partnerships with other countries (on their website) so was wondering if you could tell me more about the year abroad programme and how the process is like, if you happen to know. 3. Are there any field trips for psychology? 4. How good is the department of psychology in terms of teaching quality and facilities (other than EEGs) And lastly, how much career support does the uni provide/ how good is it for psychology? I apologise for the long list of questions, but I’d greatly appreciate if you could provide some information! Thanks:smile:

Hi, don't apologise for the long list of Qs, as I said before, I'm more than happy to answer them!

1.

I'd say that you do get some research opportunities in 2nd year as part of a group project in the 'research methods in psychology' module. So, for example, we did a memory study to study the impact of related and unrelated words and how that affects memory recall. For this group project, we had to collect our own participants, give them consent/debrief forms, analyse our data, write an essay, etc. So, we got the opportunity to conduct a small research. I didn't get to conduct any actual lab research (if that's what you were wondering). However, depending on your dissertation topic, you might conduct similar studies in lab rooms as part of your final year research. There are also many research opportunities that lecturers email us about, which we can get ourselves involved in to get that clinical experience

2.

Yes, the uni does offer a year abroad/placement year. I know more about the placement year from classmates who did that, but not enough about the year abroad so I can't give you much information about that, sorry. But, here is a list of universities that city is partnered with for the year abroad program:

Concordia University - Montreal, Canada
Koc University - Istanbul, Turkey
Queen's University - Ontario, Canada
Queensland University of Technology - Queensland, Australia
Rijksuniversiteit Groningen - Groningen, Netherlands
Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology - Melbourne, Australia
Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology - Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam
Rutgers University - New Brunswick, NJ, USA
Seoul National University - Seoul, Republic of Korea
Toronto Metropolitan University - Toronto, Canada
University of British Columbia - Vancouver, Canada
University of British Columbia - Okanagan, Canada
University of Queensland - Queensland, Australia

3.

No, as far as I'm aware, there are no field trips for psychology

4.

I would say that the teaching quality is good. Lecturers stop throughout lectures to see if anyone has any questions. The lecturers also answer questions after lectures and during their listed office hours, which is really helpful. There are many facilities, as I said you can get involved in lab research through various research opportunities so I think that is conducted in an actual lab setting

5.

I'd say that the career support is one of the standout elements of this psychology course. We have had so many career talks from people with a wide range of backgrounds (both psychology and non psychology related). Many career fairs have been hosted by charities like Shout, Childline, etc. We also have the careers and employability team who help you refine your CV, conduct mock interviews/assessments, help you to figure out what career you want to pursue and help you with finding careers/placements around your interest. So, there is so much support around employability with this course.

Now I'm going to apologise for the answers but I hope I answered your questions. If you need me to clarify anything, just let me know!

Best wishes,
Ishrat ☺️
