Uni transfer - how does student finance work?

Hi everyone,
I'm currently studying in my first year at the university of chester but want to switch to a closer university to my home i'd still complete my first year just so i don't have a gap but want to switch to a completely different course so i know i'd have to start as a freshman again. How does the work with student finance and also with my university?is it something you can do online through the student finance website or will it require ringing them?
Thank you

Hi @Mackenziemil You need to first sort out with your University, decide which University you want to switch to and have a meeting with your current university (Faculty), let them know your situation and I believe they will guide you from there.

Regarding the Student Finance, You will need to report this to Student Finance.

You can read about it more here:

If you're completing the year at your current uni, you will apply as a continuing student when applications open in March. You will need to change the uni on your account (you can do this online).

Inform the student finance/registry team at your current uni that you are transferring unis and where you will be studying. They should also inform SFE.

Hi @Mackenziemil

I'm sorry to hear that you're looking to transfer. But that said, it's really important that you do the right thing for you, so if that involves changing course and moving to a university closer to your hometown then it's important to trust your gut.

Have you informed anyone at Chester that you’re looking to transfer? That would definitely be my first recommendation. You can do this via student support services - [email protected] or by calling into InfoPoint in Binks on our Exton Park campus to talk to someone in person.

It might also be worth booking an appointment with your PAT. Don't be afraid to reach out to your them, even if it's just to make them aware that you will be transferring and to talk it through. I just want to ensure that you're getting any support that you might need while you finish off your first year!

You’ll be advised how the transfer process works and supported throughout by Chester and the university you’re transferring to.

The above posts have already provided some helpful information on student finance.

Please let us know if you have any questions.

Best wishes,
Becky
