Law Durham UCL and Bristol

How is it possible that I have predicted A*A*A and LNAT score of 28 and I got rejected by Durham? Anyone in this situation? Home and non contextual. I'm so disappointed. Now hoping for Bristol and UCL. I'm beyond shocked to be honest with what I read about others who got offers and have so much lower scores... :frown:((

Hi! I'm sorry to hear that... I think your personal statement is really important. It's not only about listing what you've done but also what you've learned from different experiences and why you're passionate about law, so maybe you lacked a bit in these aspects? Although it is definitely upsetting, try to stay positive and don't worry too much about the other universities, they will respond eventually (UCL WILL take longer), and it's totally out of your control. Good luck!

Durham do put substantial weight into the essay, so that may be a reason. That or personal statement.

really sorry to hear this but please don’t let it stop you. 28 is great and you gave it your best; it’ll all still work out. The law programs are really just that cutthroat where they look for any reason to reject a person. Secretly, a lot of the schools see the essay as a form of advocacy so if you don’t go hard in those 40 minutes, they do unfortunately assume you can’t argue/ articulate yourself.

I applied to Cambridge, 3 Russell groups, and SOAS in 2023 w/ a 27 and only got an offer from SOAS. All 4 schools’ reasoning was “the pool of applicants too competitive.” I was crushed to do everything right and fall short but now things are going a lot better. The only differences are the schools, time, and my LNAT being a point higher while the average was lower. So you never know! Keep going, be proud of yourself, and don’t settle

I got 32 and was rejected by Durham, seems they weigh the essay highly. Don't worry about it!

I do sympathise with your predicament and obvious disappointment. Rejection messages are never going to be popular, especially over uni choices where you have obviously put in so much effort to reach this stage. As others have intimated, there could be a variety of reasons including personal statement, and just the more likely fact that more qualified candidates have applied than their are places. I've heard of AAAA* candidates being rejected in the past by Durham, that have been accepted by Oxbridge colleges, (at least based on predicted grades). If you've been given feedback that is generic, you might request more of a specific breakdown. If not, you could potentially take a year out and try again if you were really set on them (and using your time to perhaps improve your application/PS)

I got 28 on my LNAT, A* achieved and predicted A*AA.
Just received my Bristol offer today after being placed on hold last week (after applying back in October) so stay positive from Bristol.

Also for Durham it may have been your essay as I think they weight that quite highly. Bristol LNAT is 60/40 bias to the MCQ and 28 is a pretty dam good score.

Son rejected by Durham. Offered Bristol with A* A* A A and 24 LNAT non contextual. 5 x 9 and 4 x 8 gcse.

Can you ask Durham for essay feedback? I got a 26 but I think I wrote the best essay of my life on the LNAT and got offers from Bristol & Durham but rejections from UCL & KCL.

My son applied over 5 months ago, predicted 3 x A*s, scored 33 on the LNAT and still has heard nothing from Durham. There seems little rhyme or reason to their offer strategy 🤔
