That depends on the course and the university.

That depends on the course and the university.

Lets say Cambridge or Oxford and you are trying to study law
Cambs:

“There are no GCSE (or equivalent) requirements for entry to Cambridge.

We will look at your GCSE results as an indicator of your academic performance. But this will be within the context of the performance of the school/college where you achieved your GCSEs.”
Oxford:

“GCSEs will be taken into account when we consider your application but they are just one aspect that we look at. GCSE results will be considered alongside your personal statement, academic reference, predicted grades and performance in any written work or written test required for your course.

If you are shortlisted, your performance in interviews will also be taken into account.
Higher grades at GCSE can help to make your application more competitive, and successful applicants typically have a high proportion of 7,8 and 9 grades. However, we do look at GCSE grades in context.”
Hi there,

It totally depends on the course requirements, but the normal GCSE requirements for any University are a 4/C in Maths and English (either Lit or Lang).

Top Unis like Oxbridge will sometimes require slightly higher grades such as a 6/7 in Maths and English, and maybe in the subject area you are taking - like requiring a 7 in Biology if you're taking the Natural/Biological Sciences course. In no scenario will they require all 9s for GCSE, so this really should NOT impact your ability to get an offer from them or any Uni for that matter!

Hope this helps

Immediately above your post are two posts, citing what Oxford and Cambridge say about GCSEs. Neither university sets any minimum for GCSEs. Each looks at GCSEs as part of the overall picture. Successful candidates tend to have good GCSE grades, but there is no yes/no grade.
