Social life at private accommodation (Atlas House Exeter St Lukes)

Hi,
I'll be studying med at Exeter this coming Sept and idk if I should go for Rowancroft or Atlas House private accommodation.Tbh I rly don't like the look of Rowancroft and considering its more expensive than Atlas house it just doesn't make sense to me.But I'm not too sure how the social life will be at private accom. I wanna be surrounded by other first yrs so that I can make friends w ppl who are in the same boat and also some other medics.

Any advice???

Hi, I am thinking the same thing! I’ve got an offer to study med but wasn’t sure on rowancroft as seemed super expensive for what it was. Let me know if you get any advice!

I'm from Exeter but at a different uni. Exeter isn't very big and you can easily walk to the other side of the city centre in about 25 mins so where you live doesn't really make much difference. Apart from the imperial you would be closer to all the main pubs if you lived by st Luke's, especially the ones on the quay. Also you'd be right next to Magdalen road and St leonards which is very leafy and picturesque and you easily run home to get lunch
.
Having said that I did wish that I went to the main accommodation at my uni in first year because people were more sociable, it just depends whether you think that's worth the money and extra hassle.

Hi dumbrosaa,

Congratulations on your offer! Ultimately, I’d advise you to do what you feel is right for you in terms of accommodation and costs. But, do not that being in private accommodation doesn’t mean that you won’t mix with other first years, given you’ll meet them through your course and any societies, which are great ways to meet likeminded people. You can view a full list of our societies through our Student Guild’s page.

Equally, Exeter is a considerably small city, so you’re bound to get to know people in all sorts of capacities and become really familiar with them; you will meet your tribe, so to speak. But, if you have any questions related to social aspects, or any concerns, do leave a reply!
