Hi there,
Optometry is a great choice! Are you thinking of applying? 😃
Teesside is actually the top North East uni for student experience (Teaching Excellence Framework 2023) and also the first North East uni to deliver an optometry programme. Our optometry teaching team are experienced and dedicated with a strong focus on evidence-base practice. This means you gain a contemporary, professional and authentic learning experience and plenty of support throughout.
Why not come along to an open day where you can meet the lecturers yourself, along with current students, and ask them any questions that you have? Seeing the campus, the facilities and meeting the team in person is always a great idea to help you make your decision. 😊 The next open day is on Saturday 21 June and you can book your place here.
I hope that helps, but let us know if you have any questions at all!

@Teesside Can u help with if the iptom course allows you to register with the GOC we’re confused 😭
I didn't knew until one person who applied for optometry told me and then I searched to see and it did say that so I'm so confuse
It says on there website : approval from the GOC to provide this programme. Whilst under provisional approval, students recruited on to the programme are not guaranteed entry to the GOC Register and may be required to undertake additional assessments through an alternative GOC-approved education provider in the event that any aspect of the programme when delivered does not satisfy the GOC standards. So I’m assuming you’d jsut have to take the final exams at another institution if the GOC don’t accept u essentially I think it’s u might get accepted might not if u don’t sit more exams ?? I think not sure tho correct me if I’m wrong

Hello 🙂
You are almost correct - until we gain full approval, likely (but not guaranteed!) after our first cohort of students graduate this Summer, we will be under provisional approval. This means that if the General Optical Council, our regulatory body, is unhappy with any aspect of the course, they can take away our provisional approval. If this happened, we would have to find students places at alternative institutions and students may need to do additional study/exams to complete or finalise their study.

So if I firmed Teeside but they don’t get the approval what would I do?
What u guys think is it worth going there or no Is also one of my option
tbh i firmed teeside, i will go on september , i would say if you other options I would say I might be better just because of approval situation. But I'm kind of sure by 2nd year we will probably know if the course will get approved or not.

i firmed teeside as well, so i will see you in September then 😭 , if it doesn't get approved they would have to change us to other uni, as they responsible for it, or either finish the coursework, but we might to take extra test.
