Strathclyde University Resits

Hi, I’m currently in 3rd year at Strathclyde University & had to resit one of my modules from 2nd year. I failed this resit & had to resit again in December however also failed this. I am unsure whether I’ll be given another attempt to sit this, if I’ll need to resit a whole year as this will affect me getting into honours year, or if I should begin looking at other options?

Thanks

At Strathclyde, they have "general regulations" an then those which apply to specific courses within specific departments. As you haven't mentioned what you're studying, I'm going to answer your question purely based on what's written in Strathclyde's General Regulations for Undergraduate & Integrated Masters Awards. Please take a look at their Academic regulations page to see if there are any specific regulations applicable to your department or course. Or just mention your course, and I'll check.

The general regulations say (with my added emphasis):
"35. A student who is deemed to have failed in a taught module at Level 1, 2 or 3 shall normally be permitted a further attempt at passing the module, as well as a maximum of two additional attempts at the discretion of the Board of Examiners. A student who is deemed to have failed in a taught module at Level 4 or 5 will not normally be permitted a further attempt at passing the module. At the discretion of the Board of Examiners, a maximum of one additional attempt may be permitted (see paragraph 80). In all cases the nature of re-assessment to be applied to all students shall be identified in relevant Programme Handbook."

So you're allowed four attempts in total to pass a module - the original attempt and up to three further / additional attempts. Is sounds like you've had three attempts so far: the original attempt in second year, and two resits attempts - the most recent of which was in December. Have I got that right? So the regulations allow you one additional attempt "at the discretion of the Board of Examiners".

Hi there,

Thank you so much- that’s been really helpful, I really appreciate it. I am studying Economics, I had a look but can’t stay anything for that specific course/ Strathclyde Business School so I might need to speak to an academic advisor. Thanks so much again!

You're welcome. And I agree, their "Academic regulations" page for Economics, here, has nothing specific for undergraduate Economics, so the general regulations should apply without modification. Having said that, double-checking with an academic advisor seems like wise choice.
