GCSEs & Medicine

I achieved 88777776665
8 In maths , 7s in Sciences triple & a 6 in English Language.

I am looking for Universities which do not rank GCSEs. I am gonna start revising for the UCAT now as my A level predicteds are set.

I’m currently thinking on St George’s and QMUL but not too sure on the rest.

I know a lot of people don't like this but when applying for medicine, it is best to now have all your options within London, apply to one or two uni's outside too! I would recommend Southampton, Cardiff, Bath... As for within London, Royal Holloway and City don't fuss about GCSE grades. UCL and Oxbridge are incredibly competitive but I hear King's is more lenient. To be fair, it is Maths and English GCSE grades Medicine schools mostly look into; you would not be at too much of a disadvantage because your grades are not too bad.

Yeah I was thinking of doing St George and Queen Mary since they don’t take GCSEs into account much, and I’m basically guaranteed a St George interview if my UCAT is decently high.
Not too fussed about which University I go to though.
Does KCL really not take GCSEs into account past the entry requirements?
Since I got into the K+ program for the psychiatry & neuroscience pathway I might be able to get some extra points.
If they do score GCSEs I’ll just apply for Neuroscience there for my 5th choice.

I was really worried about my GCSEs last year but there are some universities that focus mainly on predicted grades and UCAT. For example, if you receive a top 30% UCAT atleast and 3A*s predicted, you can consider exeter too.
I applied in 2024 and have received offers from exeter and st george’s for 2025 entry with 988776666 and 2780 B2.
I also know that UCL and Imperial do not look at GCSEs beyond the minimum requirement either but require a high UCAT, obviously do a lot of research on universities and their previous admissions statistics.
Do also check foundation courses and that if you meet their eligibility criteria, hope this helped!!

It depends on the UCAT since the score contains both the ucat and a levels mixed

heyy, yeah I’d 100% recommend resitting English Language to get atleast a 6, and also make sure that your maths is at atleast a 6 too, if that’s the case then you can apply to glasgow, st george’s, imperial and ucl as these don’t look at gcses beyond the minimum requirement anymore which is 6 in Maths and English Language. Do check if this is still the same and also check if they accept GCSE resits. However these unis do have really high UCAT cut offs🥲🥲

I’m not sure about how exeter scores contextual candidates and what the cut off for interview has been in the past few years but you can get the scoring system on their website. Exeter scores candidates using both predicted grades and UCAT so aim to get as high grades and ucat as possible.

I’d also recommend checking if you are eligible for foundation year/gateway to medicine. The eligibility criteria varies from uni to uni so you’ll have to check each one individually😣

Finally, don’t rely fully on this information, research unis and their admissions statistics over the past 2-3 years to get a rough idea of whether you can get an interview from there or not. Do also check the minimum requirements and the selection process for each uni. Goodluck with your application, I wish you the best!!😝😝

Your GCSEs are fine for St George's and QMUL. You meet the minimum GCSEs requirement which will help you get shortlisted as well. Another medical school (you should also consider) which is also close to London, is BSMS. BSMS, don't really care much about GCSEs and mainly give offers primarily based on interview performance. Another uni you can also look at is King's College London for the EMDP (Extended Medical Degree Programme). Your GCSEs would limit you for the main A100 course but if you went to a state school and have some contextual points and your UCAT is high enough, consider it. King's EMDP has a lower A Level Offer of around ABB and would be a great choice for your possible insurance. I got similar GCSEs to you and I got 888877766 including 8 in Maths, 8 in Biology and Chemistry and a 6 in English Language and got offers so far with QMUL & BSMS. What are your A Level predicted grades by the way, if you don't mind me asking.

My predicteds are AAA. Trying to get bumped to A*AA for maths though.

Only thing I can say, don't start properly revising for the ucat yet, nothing more than like an hour weekly as you can easily resit the ucat/ get in with a mediocre ucat score, but it is very hard to resit A-levels and almost impossible to get into medicine with resit a-levels/ Bs at A-level.
Best of luck!

Yeah bump that up to A*AA, so that way you can be considered for QMUL for medicine. Since they require a minimum of A*AA predicted for you to apply, initially.

It's not impossible to get into medicine while resitting A Levels, its just that you resitting would limit the amount of med schools that you would be able to apply to.
