Why do my friends hav different entry requirements for the same course?

Hi! So im applying international relations at Edinburgh, and I do the IB diploma. I however am so confused as to how all my international applying friends ahve different entry requirements. We all come from a privellged background, infact they are significantly richer than me. They don't seem eligible for contextual offers but somehow they've all been offered places for 34 points, whereas as a british student living abroad we all nhave been given an offer for 39 points? I find this really unfair considering they are in the exact same position as me? How does the university get away with this when its clearly because they pay 30k whereeas I pay 9k, as I can't find anything saying that they give lower req. for international students. On the webiste it says they only give lower entry requirements for this with compromised education, severe trauma ect....????!! It just sucks because the difference between 39 on the Ib and 34 is massive.

i apologise for all the spelling mistakes btw
Scottish unis are capped on the amount of Home students they can take, so competition is higher.

There's a couple of relevant bits on their entry requirements page:

https://www.ed.ac.uk/studying/undergraduate/entry-requirements/our-requirements

"However, please note that competition for places can vary by fee status and may be very high where places are limited."

...

"Conditional offers will generally be made at the level of grades that applicants who are selected to receive an offer for a particular degree have achieved, or are predicted to achieve.

If all applicants selected to receive an offer for a degree have achieved, or are predicted to achieve, grades higher than the upper grade level in the entry requirements then the conditional offer will be based on the lowest grades achieved, or predicted to be achieved, by the selected applicants.

This means that conditional offer requirements may sometimes be higher than the upper grade level for a degree."

It's not great for applicants or many offer holders, but at least they spell out why they do it this way.
