Ask a current Edge Hill University student!

Hi my name is Charlie, I'm making this thread to introduce myself as a student ambassador, and allow others to introduce themselves here too!

I'm a 2nd year history student at Edge Hill, and I've also done a year of a professional policing degree, and I live on campus!

Feel free to ask me or any others here any questions you have about university in general or Edge Hill specifically!

How does study abroad years work 🥰

Hi there!

When you get to university your course offers different study abroad years, for Edge Hill specifically we have various locations that are tied to Edge Hill that you can look into, here's the page that explains it for Edge Hill in particular!

I hope this helps 🙂

Hi Lilly!

Generally you apply for accomodation once you've accepted your offer for the university, but you can start looking at options while you wait so you can explore what you would like!

Here's our accomodation page for Edge Hill University, if you have any more questions feel free to post them!

Hi everyone!

My name is Finlay and I am a second year Film and Broadcast Production Student at Edge Hill University. I am also a student ambassador! I have lived both on campus and in Ormskirk town centre so would be more than happy to help with any questions about that!

More generally, I spend around four days every week on campus so I have come to learn it quite well over the years and would be able to help with any queries about this. I'll always try to answer any question you have and make sure to get back to you as soon as I can!

Hiya im starting in September for the new graphic design course.

For the term dates is it like 12 weeks continuously like end of Sept til mid December wiv no half term like the schools would do? Then a break for Christmas, Easter, summer.

Im quite antisocial so im worried about making friends at the uni especially the party's and social events. How does freshers week work other than enrolling and starting the course?

Hi there!

Worries are completely natural before taking this next step into university life, but let me try to put some of them to rest by telling you that everyone is going to be in the same position as you are.

Most courses offer a reading week during those 12 weeks for students to catch up and reorganise anything, but also to take a breath and catch up on any everyday jobs that may have been piling up.

Freshers week offers both nights out for students but also a lot of day-time activities if that isn't your thing - for example, I remember I was offered inflatable obstacle courses, some cooking classes, and more. Nothing needs to be planned before arrival, although freshers tickets may become available these are likely to be available on the day so it might be worth waiting to see what your flatmates are going to

I hope this helps and feel free to drop below any more questions you have!

Absolutely! 😃 Lots of students don’t drink (myself included) and/or don’t live in uni accommodation you definitely won’t be alone.

If you don’t drink, there are still so many ways to socialise and make friends! You can join societies, sports teams, and go to uni events that aren’t centred around alcohol. The Student Life team put on amazing events throughout the year (several each week), which are a great way to meet new people without drinking. Think movie nights, Global Cafe, learn-to-cook sessions, IKEA trips, and much more!

If you’re not living in uni accommodation, there are still loads of ways to get involved. Many students commute, and as well as meeting people on your course, you can still join in with all the university events. The Hub and Students’ Union are great places to spend time between classes or meet up with friends after lectures.

There’s no pressure to drink or stay in uni accommodation and it definitely doesn’t mean you can’t get involved and have an amazing time at uni!
