What are some nice accommodations at UEA?

I’m think about getting an en-suite just because of convenience. There are so many available but not necessarily views of all of them.

So to current/alumni students of UEA, which accommodations would you recommend/ not recommend and why?

I've heard they're good from a friend of mine that's already at the UEA, i believe they're the newest accommodations too right?

Have you any thoughts on the INTO building as that's what I've been looking at personally

Not sure about that but Nelson is also good

Hey! Getting an en-suite at UEA is definitely a great choice for convenience, and there are plenty of options depending on your budget and preference.

If you're looking for the most social experience, The Village is a popular choice. It's slightly further from the main campus (about a 15-minute walk), but it's more affordable and has a great community vibe. If you want to be closer to everything, Nelson Court, Constable Terrace, and Paston House are all solid choices—right in the heart of campus, close to lectures, the SU, and the library. Barrett and Hickling Houses are a bit more premium, offering slightly larger rooms, and are right by the lake, which is a bonus if you like a nice view!

Most en-suites at UEA are modern and well-maintained, but if you prefer quieter accommodation, check the specifics—some areas are known for being livelier than others.

Do you have any particular preferences, like budget or location on campus? 😊

Thanks for the detailed response. I’m thinking a bit on the lower end since it’s my first year and also would be my first year in Nowrich.

When picking accommodation, do we get to pick the specific building or is that random?

Hi @Anonymous#1

When you are choosing your accommodation you will be asked to rank your choices, this means you can choose specific accommodation that you prefer i.e the village as your top or Colman house. Our undergraduates options are all en-suite and our postgraduates have the options of sharing a bathroom.

Typically UEA aim to provide students with the first choice or at least the second, it will be random which room you however get. If you have special requirements and need a room on the bottom floor there will be a section where you can request this/ a box to tick. You can also specify if you wanted a quiet flat, would like to live with mature students, or a non alcohol flat.

We also have accommodation in our city centre too, here is the link where you can search for accommodation https://www.uea.ac.uk/uea-life/accommodation

Hope that helps and any other questions feel free to ask!

Hello @anonymous #1

In terms of en-suite, it firstly does depend on your budget.

Barton and Hickling is the most premium accommodation, with en-suites and probably the most modern kitchen (more fridge space and good ovens). I would recommend Barton as is really nice and modern. It is also very close to the main parts of campus and the Sportspark.

En-suite campus is also a good option as is so close to the lecture rooms and main areas on campus.

You can compare accomodations types here:

Hello @Colourcollider,

The reputations of the accommodations depends on the students living in these blocks, each year it can vary. If you are concerned about noise level you can request a quieter flat. I did this in my first year and had a mixture of mature students, first years and international students who also preferred a quieter evening.

I would also suggest choosing an accommodation further away from our LCR, as this is where they hold events, gigs, and club nights. Nelson court is the closest to the LCR. In comparisons the Village is located off our campus, so would be the furthest and perhaps the most quietest. I stayed in Colman house and was placed on the top floor so the noise level was fairly quiet. Barton and Hickling are also slightly further away from the LCR too but these are the slightly more expensive accommodations.

You can also request a non- alcohol flat, or I would suggest communicating to your flat mates in advance for any requests on noise levels.

Hope that helps and any other questions feel free to ask!

What are some good buildings within the village?

Hi @Anonymous,

All of our village accommodation look very similar to each other. They come with a modernised kitchen, en-suites, and are close to Aldi.
The building names include

Beech House

Courtyard A and B

Elm House

Hawthorn House

Larch House

Oak House

Pine House

Willow House

Ash House

Yew House

Typically there are 6-8 students per flat. Here is the link to our website https://www.uea.ac.uk/uea-life/accommodation/en-suite-village. There is also a 360 virtual tour video included on this page, and a floor plan of the room. You can also come to an applicant day and take a quick tour too! Register here

Hope that helps!

Oh is The Village the most social cause I heard from someone that its more quite?

Hi @anonymous#3

The village is slightly off campus, so it can be considered as slightly quiet. However, I wouldn’t base your decision off an accommodation’s reputation - as it can vary depending on the year, the people you are grouped on, or your own personal experience and preferences. A lot of my friends stayed in the village and loved it. 😊

Students are able to choose a quiet flat in all of our accommodations, as well as a non- alcohol flat. I would suggests choosing the accommodation that best fits your budget and your personal preferences. Prior to moving into halls you can always find your flatmates via Facebook and connect with them to understand the vibe.

Hope that helps !
