durham castle

Hi guys! Does anyone know whether if you don't get into durham university castle college you still get to spend time in the castle/use the amenities in the castle such as the libary? I can't seem to figure it out but i'll be sad if I can't even go in the castle if im a student from a dif college

Hello, I’m a current Durham student at a hill college. Unfortunately, you wouldn’t really be able to use the library or amenities such as that as they are mostly reserved for castle students. However, you can absolutely visit the college bar and toastie shop whilst there. I know the idea of living in a castle is very cool, but even if you end up at one of the more modern colleges like I have you will absolutely still come to love it, and you can always take some nice walks near the Bailey and down on the riverside by the boat club to get some really nice views of the cathedral and castle! Plus if you end up on the hill like I have you can get the chance to watch the sunset over Durham on Observatory Hill, which is absolutely beautiful 🫶

Hiya,

Unfortunately, you wouldn't be able to as access is only for Castle students but there are other Bailey college libraries that you'll be able to get into even if you're not a member of the college (St Johns, Cuths, etc) and info about that will be sent out once you start. Still, Palace Green library is open to all students and is located near/on the castle grounds, you should be able to access that. 🙂

Hope this helps!
