ICLMS or other sixth form?

hi I am a year 10 student and I am thinking of what sixthforms to apply to next year. 1 That really caught my eye as a student who loves STEM was ICLMS (imperial college londons mathematics school) however people having been saying that there is not enough information about it(grades /student destinations) and that it is small even calling it a cabin!
I want to study maths further maths physics computerscience / economics for a-level and I want to become an engineer. I really liked this school becuse of all the STEM opportunities but pls HELP ME guys
My other options are:
NCS( newham collegiate school)
KCLMS( kings college london maths school)
Woodhouse college
Tiffins girls school(grammar school)
Henriette barnete school
LAE
Brampton Manor
or something local!
I really want to go either MIT, Oxbridge, Imperial college London or Harvard and I hope to get GCSE 999998887(7 in eng lit/lang). Which do you think is the best school althogh I probably won't get accepted to all of them.

Hi,

I'm also a year 10 student hoping to get (10 x 9s) (1 x A - Add Maths) (Good grade on Further Maths) (A in iGCSE Sanskrit), and hoping to go to Oxford or LSE (or something of that sort)

I am also planning to apply to KCLMS, and from what is visible, I think it's a great school. I'm planning for Maths, Economics, Further Maths, Physics AS. I want to do economics for university though.

For KCLMS, we don't know much about it at all. I remember seeing a statistic of it, however, and it has a higher Oxbridge rate than Henrietta Barnett School for example. It also has better results. Now, what I'm unsure about is why it is not in the top of the rankings. Like certainly such an amazing school should be right at the top, perhaps as its not all-rounded in all fields (no Maths schools are high up on the ranking - so perhaps that makes sense)

From what I've read, the admissions test is the level of a UKMT paper, so I'm using ICLMS specimen papers as well as they're more accurate

Personally my ranking is:

1.

KLCMS

2.

Henrietta Barnett

3.

ICLMS & Woodhouse College (but I'm not that keen on the rates)

4.

I'm thinking LAE (but I'm not that keen on the rates)

Thank you so much, however I did some more research and although I really like Maths and wanted to go to a Mathematics sixthform I am now leaning more towards NCS (Newham collegiate school) from what is on their school website they have REALLY good student destinations after sixth form and also focus on helping students apply for their preferred unis including ones in the US which I really need help with😭( it seems so complex! )
The only downside is it doesn't really focus too much on STEM I think but that is kinda good for US unis I guess.
Also how are your grades SO GOOD! My grades are currently a bit lower than what I wrote since things have been a bit out of order since I moved schools but those are what I should be able to get realisticly in my GCSE.

You cannot take Physics AS at KCLMS, you must take maths, further maths, physics at A Level. There is the option to take Computer Science or Economics at AS Level though.

As a current NCS student I would recommend the school heavily as most students tend to get an A* in STEM however so computer science is not an applicable subject here

Almost 40% of KCLMS students in 2024 went to Oxbridge. That is remarkable for a school of 70 kids in year 13.

IIRC one year they had 6 students go to Cambridge to do maths which is supposed to be the hardest maths degree in the world.

If you are seriously considering going to a uni in the US then you will need to do a lot of your own research too. The likes of Harvard and MIT will be incredibly competitive (and insanely expensive) but they have great scholarship and bursary programmes, even for overseas students.

Really sorry for the late reply - I had an account issue. That makes total sense though, and that is a very appealing thing. If your aim is the States, I assume that would be a pretty good option. If you can go private, I'd 100% recommend NLCS to you; they allow you to take IBs and have a huge!! focus on US universities for the International campus especially. And also, thank you so much about my grades, but it is only what I'm aspiring for 😅 I still get 5s and 8s on bad exams, I'm just aspiring for 9s. But your grades are really good.

There's a new change 🙂
Year 13
Students are prepared for A2 examinations in:

Mathematics and Further Mathematics

From September 2025 onwards, students will be able to pick one of Physics, Computer Science, Economics or Philosophy to take to A Level.

Where did you see that students will be able to pick Computer Science for A level? I don't remember them mentioning this at the open evening but do remember Philosophy being mentioned.

honestly NCS seems the bets choice, especially with your love for STEM and desire to get into MIT and Harvard etc. A lot of the NCS students who got into these skls also applied for engineering/comp sci so being able to speak to these former students for advice is invaluable, especialy since the US application system can be confusing. and since the teachers at the skl have sent these students to these amaxing universities alongside ocbridge, u will be able to get advice and support from them aswl. For reference, one of the only other places u would get specialised support for US applications + has a consistent track record of consistently sending students there is Eton, but most ppl dont have 50,000 to be spending each year. the fact that u get a similar if not better level of edcuation (since NCS even has better oxbridge acceptance rate) for FREE is kinda crazy to me!! on a final note, ur gcses look rlly good so far. Try if possible to make those 8s and 7s into 9s, especially since u have over a year to perfect those grades and its 100% doable for a smart student like urself

thank you! I have been quite nervouse about having to pick between so many sixth forms and all the choices I definetly feel that NCS would be my first choice but I will still apply to multiple sixth forms just on case and hope for the best

philosophy isn't being offered this year. If you choose econ you can only take it at As. If you take cs you can either take the A level or an independent programming qualification.

Econ is only offered as AS!!? That's crazy as they haven't mentioned it anywhere, in fact online - everywhere it says you can pick between Physics, Economics, Computer Science & Philosophy

That's what they told me for my offer which is for 2025. However they could change it for 2026 entry and it's possible when you're in year 11 Econ will be offered at AS. I don't know what's going on with philosophy though.

For practice I would really recommend using the specimen questions as the test is just a harder version of them.
