Doctoral loan

Hi. I started my DBA (Doctorate) in September but I am wanting to change university and start from scratch with the same course.

If I was to do this I know my overall loan would be lower due to having 2 payments already. But if I was to change to another university am I able to do this as it’s for a doctoral loan or would it only be allowed under CPR.

Hi Oliver,

Would you be withdrawing from your current course or transferring to the new course? When does the new course start?

Thanks,

Would you be withdrawing from the current course or transferring? If you don't know, you would be best speaking to the new university to find out what they will be classing you as.

Claire

Hi. Ideally withdrawing so if that’s the case would CPR be allowed?

Hi or if it was transferred how would it work either way. Would I still be eligible for finance. I know it would affect the overall loan amount but want to know if I can still get funding

If you have already received any instalment of your Postgraduate Doctoral Loan, you will be ineligible for further funding without Compelling Personal Reasons (CPR) being accepted.

If you have agreed with the university to withdraw, we require the university to send a change of circumstances to confirm this. Once updated, we will update the application and send you the necessary paperwork.

If you wish to reapply for new course once you have withdrawn. You would need to complete a new application form, and post this to us with the CPR evdience. The evidence would be a letter on headed paper signed/stamped and dated from someone in profession i.e. Doctor/lecturer who knows the CPR. They must know how it affected your studies and the dates it affected you. Once received it will be up to the assessor if this will be accepted or not.

Thanks,
Claire

Students can transfer between eligible PHD courses and remain eligible for Postgraduate Doctoral funding as long as the student's previous course has not ended. This rule applies when the student either transfers:

to a different course at the same HE provider,

to a different course at a different HE provider; or

to the same course at a different HE provider

We would require your new university to send us a change of circumstances to confirm this so we can update the application and your payments.

Thanks,
Claire

It depends whether your new university is classing you as a transfer or not, you need to speak to them to find out.
If you withdraw from you current course, as mentioned above, you won't be eligible without CPR.

If you transfer, we need the new university to send a change of circumstances.

Thanks,

Hi. Thanks for clarifying. Just to confirm

Is it the new university who needs to just send the COc or the old one too.

Also say if my new start date for new university is march and my last payment date for my last university was April will my payment schedule be brought forward in the sense of I’ll get a payment for my new start date. As university (new) will need paying.

If you're transferring, it will only be the new university that send a change of circumstances.
Any remaining payment will be scheduled in line with the new course.

Thanks
