Bath or UEA for pharmacy with preparatory year

I've received offers for Pharmacy with a preparatory year at both Bath (offered at the University of Plymouth campus) and UEA. I'm having trouble deciding between the two. I'd love to hear from current students or graduates who have studied Pharmacy at either university. Specifically, I'm interested in which offer better practical work opportunities, accommodation options, and facilities. Additionally, as a Muslim student, I'm also keen to know about halal food availability and the Muslim community at each university.
Thank you

Salam, I am not a uni student but congrats on your offer, for bath I did my own research based on the accommodations and did use the 'Chat to our students' platform they have.
May I ask how the bath interview was like, if the maths question or the situational judgement scenario they asked was hard. Also, Ramadan Mubarak!!

Thanks for your reply the interview was easy they arent trying to catch you out the questions they asked me were simple division and multiplication questions and they have the questions infront of you if you forget what they said try to be yourself make sure you know what role a pharnacits does also why there university specifcally for me i said i like how they offer placenent in the first year as welk as thst 96 percent of students pass the gphc registration exam ehich isbtruly a testament to there quality of education and that uni is surrounded by nature and i really like outdoor activities good luck. Thank you so much for the help, also regarding the ethical question /scenario was that easy, what type questions did they ask like what would you do if something went wrong or was it like tell me a time when u used teamwork skills , if you get what i mean, kinda stressed as this is my first pharmacy interview

I cant remwmbwr baths question since it qas 3 weeks ago but it is simple just make sure you are explaining your thought process and showing the skills relevant to being a pharmscist for example lets say a lady hasnt picked up her medications in a month and lets say one of skills you tell the interviewer is communication aay i will mention the issue tobmy collegues and senior pharmacist i will also call the patient and 8nform them they are missing this us a good answer but be nire thorough and be nore creative like you can say i will call and remind the patient if they forgot and will also inform them how crucial it is to take these medications or you can look from an entirley new perspective by saying i will contact the gp to see if the patient has a new supplier or leta say patient doesnt answer you can contact a family member in emergency contacts etc

Hiya! Congratulations on your offers!

I’m a 4th year pharmacy student at Bath but unfortunately don’t have any experience at the Plymouth campus and we don’t have any ambassadors on this platform who do. We’ve had a look online but there isn’t a huge amount of information unfortunately. We do have a student ambassador on The Ambassador Platform who is studying pharmacy at the Plymouth campus, who you can contact through this link by searching for pharmacy.

Sorry I couldn’t be of more help. I’m happy to answer any questions you have about the course or placements etc.
Lauren, University of Bath.

I'm going to uea for pharmacy with the Preparatory year in September!

I can vouch for UEA as being a very relaxed place, friendly people and lecturers that want to help you succeed in your degree. I've been around the UEA a lot in my life, one of my parents works in the administration team and I have plenty of friends that go to the UEA!

Let me know if you decide to go to UEA, we could keep in touch :smile:

Awesome! :smile:

I believe it's a mixture of both, as the first year (the Preparatory year) s primarily in labs and will be science focused, after that it's a mix of lab, lecture theatres and smaller classrooms.

I think you're right about the lessons with other subjects too, I believe we mix with chemistry, pharmacology and medicine students as well, which is meant to help us get new perspectives and be a bit more multidisciplinary

No problem, I'm neither actually as I took a two year gap to work and earn money and I'll be an undergraduate student in September

Hello @AB2057_ukDZ

Congratulations on your offers so far, it is wonderful to hear you are interested in studying at UEA. While I do not study Pharmacy, UEA has an accredited reputation with the course consistently ranking among the top pharmacy programs in the UK. This is due to its strong teaching, research program, and student satisfaction.

I would recommend speaking to one of our current students through Unibuddy -https://www.uea.ac.uk/study/information-for/applicants-and-offer-holders/undergraduate/unibuddy-community. This is also a great opportunity to find out a bit more on your course structure, just bear in mind timetables will vary each year.

In terms of our accommodation, undergraduates are offered an en-suite room either on campus or in our village. There is also accommodation available in our city. Have you been able to come to an applicant day ? If not you can book here. Our applicant days allow you to interact with your teachers, real students and take a tour of our accommodation. If you are unable to visit, check out our website here.

Additionally, I would recommend visiting our instagram or facebook page to learn more about student life and our facilities we have on offer.

@Uniofeastanglia
@Uea_careercentral
@uea_su

Our university is self catered, although we do have a campus kitchen on site which will accommodate to everyone, as well as our SU shop. Close by we have a Tescos express and an Aldi, which is about a 10- 15 minute walk or you can order a delivery too! In our city centre there are also lots of alternative supermarkets that you can explore too.

We have lots of different communities at UEA too and everyone is super friendly. Have a look at our societies and sports clubs https://www.ueasu.org/opportunities/societies/ or https://ueasport.co.uk/clubs/.

Any other questions do feel free to ask!
