Bristol Mature Students (UWE UoB BIMM)

Hey 🌞

I will be 29 by September 2025 and I am moving to Bristol to study Product Design at UWE. I just thought I'd start a thread to meet other mature students in Bristol so that we don't feel alone if there are more younger people on our courses.

In my downtime I love drum and bass events, I like to DJ and produce my own music and I have ran the odd event in my hometown. I also love graphic design, dancing and anything creative!

Feel free to introduce yourself below; your age, course subject, hobbies & any other details you may think of! 🙂

Hey there! I’m 27 as of September this year. I am currently studying Music Production at dBs and will be likely moving over to BIMM as of September to study Music Production & Music Business.

I DJ in my spare time, enjoy going to nightlife events. I have a few different projects on the go too.

Hey, I've heard lots of good things about BIMM. What sort of music do you produce and DJ? 🙂

Glad to know i won't be the only old person starting uni in bristol hahaha.

I'm also a big drum and bass fan and i have a couple of DJ mates that currently live in Bristol. They always try and organise events and stuff, i can't say i have first experience of all of that but just know you won't be alone in that group. I'll be 27 when i start. Outside of that, i play some video games and i like to hike and stuff

Hey, I’m 27 and just started at UWE, doesn’t seem to be heaps of mature students about!

I’m doing Psycholgy, just moved back to the uk after working abroad for the last 5 years. I love a good event although I’m starting to lean more techno then dnb, love interior design, want to start being way more creative and also looking forward to gettitng back in to studying after so long off

Hi @Georgieholly,

Firstly, welcome to UWE! It sounds like you've had an exciting 5 years working away, and I'm sure it must be quite a change for you returning to education after working.

I did something similar and returned to university after working as an estate agent. I will link some websites down below which I found helpful to meet other mature students as well as a wide variety of people in Bristol.

The first website linked is one with general groups and meet-ups around the city, so I'm sure there will be a mix of groups which will have similar interests to your hobbies. I also linked another website called Bristol Girl Network who do loads of different events across the city.

I personally enjoyed Girls Who Walk (Free), which is a walking group for women around Bristol (they sometimes do breakfasts etc too), and also some of the Bristol Girl Network (paid but vary depending on the event) events as they have a lot of arts and crafts. I found it useful to meet similar aged people/people with shared experiences, and I have made some good friends through it.

I hope you find it helpful, and all the best of luck with your UWE journey!
