Question about failing a module

I am a second year Computer Games Design student at Staffordshire University. There are 6 core modules worth 20 credits each. If I fail one module but still achieve 100/120 credits will I still be able to progress to the 3rd Year.

I just wanted to know what would happen if this did occur.

You'll be given the opportunity to resit the failed module. Then, if you achieve over 35 in the failed module, it'll be treated as a condoned pass (where they treat is as a pass, and allow you to progress). Otherwise, they'll let you progress and retake the module next year.

The above is all detailed in Staffordshire's Academic Regulations, here:

See, in particular, the following sections:
What if I fail my first submission of an assessment task?
What if I fail a module?
What is module condonement?
What happens if I can’t progress to the next stage of my course?

Hi,

Hopefully we can help! All the details about failing modules and progressing to the next level of study can be found on our academic regulations webpage.

But to summarise, if you fail an assessment, don’t worry you may still pass the module overall. The minimum pass mark is 40% for undergraduate and 50% for postgraduate study. If you don’t pass the module after your first attempt, you’ll need to re-sit any failed assessments.

Re-sits:
· A re-sit is a second attempt at failed assessments.
· Re-sit grades are capped at 40% (UG) and 50% (PG).
· Late submissions are not allowed.

Progression:
· 90+ credits: You can move to the next stage while retaking failed modules.
· 60-89 credits: You must retake failed modules next year as a part-time student.
· Less than 60 credits: The Award Board will decide if you can repeat the year or be withdrawn.

More than happy to share more information if you need it 🙂
