BA Hons midwifery year 1 at Salford university

What does the first year look like? How much time do you spend on placements and are there any specific times during the terms when you are off and on placement ?
Hi @Juliak23

Thanks for asking this. I am a final-year student at the University of Salford, but studying Theatre and Performance Practice, so a bit different to Midwifery. Midwifery is a brilliant course. Have you applied for the course? If not let us know if you need any advice.

I suspect you have looked at the course on our website and seen what topics are covered each year. This isn't an exact timetable, but I have copied what it says under 'Applicant Profile' further down this page:

Bsc (Hons) Midwifery University of Salford

Applicant profile
Midwifery is not a nine-to-five job. Neither is being a student midwife:

You will be expected to work shifts, even while you are training

You don't get long holiday breaks, our course works on the basis of seven weeks of annual leave per year

Considerable travelling is required for hospital and community placements

To see if you can get a more exact timetable you can get in touch with our enquiries team who will be happy to help, they probably won\t be able to supply you with next year's timetable, but might be able to give you an idea of what it has been like for this year's first-year students.

Tel: +44 (0)161 295 4545 (The team is available to answer your questions Monday to Friday, from 10:00-16:00.)

Another way to find out more about the course and the university is to come along to one of our Open Days, our next Open Day is on Saturday 14th June, if you'd like to book a spot the link is below:

University of Salford Undergraduate Open Days

Open days are a fantastic way to...

🙂 Meet academic staff and find out more about your chosen course.
🙂 Meet fellow students and get an insight into student life at that university
🙂 Speak to other departments such as student support.
🙂 Have a campus tour and view the course facilities
🙂 Explore local accommodation options to see whether you feel at home in them.

Some universities like us offer a travel bursary towards the cost of attending an open day as we appreciate that the pennies can start adding up if you attend several Open Days.

I hope that helps and good luck with your studies!

Lucy ☺️
