Hello! I am looking at applying to an engineer course at Herriot watt and I’m wondering what the difference between a BEng civil engineering degree and a BEng civil engineering graduate apprenticeship degree. If someone could give me some clarity I would really appreciate it. Thank you!!!!

Hello!
I would say both degrees are quite similar in that they are full-time, four-year programmes taught on campus. However, the Graduate Apprenticeship consists of 20% academic learning and 80% work-based learning and the courses in the first year differ slightly between the two programmes.
In both degrees, you will study Mechanics A and Mechanics B. However, the Graduate Apprenticeship includes six additional mandatory courses: Introductory Maths for Civil Engineering, Construction Modelling, Building Services Technology, Surveying and Monitoring in the Built and Natural Environment, Construction Technology 1 and eConstruction. On the other hand, the BEng Civil Engineering degree includes the following mandatory courses in year one: Construction Technology: Small Scale Buildings, Shaping Tomorrow Together A, Mathematics for Engineers and Scientists 1, Building Services Technology, Shaping Tomorrow Together B and Mathematics for Engineers and Scientists 2.
Both courses are designed to support and enhance your personal development within a professional environment. Throughout your studies, you will gain the essential technical skills and personal qualities needed to excel in the built environment industry.
