Hi there,

Congratulations on your offer to study at York - and on your offer of a scholarship! 🎉

I'm so sorry for our delayed reply, this thread slipped through the net!

Our Marketing course is taught in the School for Business and Society, which has lots of amazing facilities, including:

Recently built, modern study areas

Spaces for student exhibitions, socialising

A large café (best known for its Asian-inspired cuisine - their Katsu curry is so tasty!)

The Trading Room, which allows students to look at how financial markets operate, using live data from databases like the China Stock Market

Here's a tour of the School for Business and Society, which is based in the Church Lane Building.

Placement years

While I didn't study Marketing, I did do a placement year as part of my degree at York. I worked as a Research Intern for a year at a company in York. Here are three things I loved about my placement:

1.

The transferable skills, experience and contacts I gained. Doing a placement definitely boosted my CV and allowed me to develop skills I'd gained during the degree course so far, as well as gain new skills. I also made friends for life, and started to create networks for building my career.

2.

The opportunity to have a break from studying for a year, and gain perspective on what it's like to have a “real world job”.

3.

The work experience and references I gained. These made looking, applying and interviewing for graduate jobs so much easier and less daunting, as I'd gone through a similar experience before when looking for a placement.

Throughout my placement year, I felt well-supported by the Careers and Placements Team, with regular check-ins from my supervisor to keep me on track.

I hope this helps! If you have any other questions about the Marketing course, or life at York, please add them to this thread.

Hi there,

Really sorry we're coming to this a bit late - just seen your post and congrats on your offers from those 2 great unis!

I can't speak for York but you've already received some advice here which is good! As for Bath...

We have one of the best performing business schools in the country, and also one of the best established industrial placement schemes in the country with the huge majority of our courses offering placement year options. Business is one of our specialisms and when you do your placement you could end up in a company such as Accenture, Chanel, Disney or L'Oreal.

Bath is also one of the safest cities in the UK which reassured me a lot.

Whilst Bath is a smaller, cosier city than some, there is still plenty to do and see. There is a shopping street or three, street food stalls everywhere, green parks, the Royal Crescent, beautiful Georgian architecture, a few good nightclubs, a vibrant pub scene and even a place where you can go and do axe throwing. Its a fun place to be!

As a former student (and current staff!) myself I genuinely loved my time at Bath - there's so much to get involved with besides your work (not just sports!) and the quality of teaching and research that comes out of this uni is genuinely excellent.

At the end of the day though - which course do you like better? Where did you feel more at home? Which city did you feel happiest in? - these are super important things to consider and the choice is yours and no one else's 🙂

Hoping this helps - please shout if you have any questions!
