Oxbridge Chances

I want to apply to Oxford for Economics and Management:

My GCSE Results: 999999999 (10x9s/ A**s)
Work Experience: Cisco, Salesforce, Google, PWC (upcoming), Pre-College Program at Columbia
Awards: Gold in UK Biology Challenge, Gold in Bebras Computational Challenge, Winner of Stride Entrepreneurship Competition + doing more essay comps etc.
Supercurriculars: Debating Club, Economics Society Leader, Netball, Rowing, Singing in Coro Choir + graded ABRSM lessons, editor for the 'King's Economist', I blog for an external website on Economics topics such as 'the gig economy' and 'the shadow economy'
Current Leadership Roles: Arts Ambassador, House Prefect (find out results soon 🤞)
Previous Leadership Roles: Financial Ambassador, Learning Representative, Numeracy Outreach Mentor

I currently study: Maths, Further Maths, Politics and Economics at A-level + an EPQ (financial algorithms in stock market)
I am not doing as well as I should academically, currently getting mainly Bs and B+ in exams, but I will do my best to bring this to 4 x A*S in June for my EoYS, so let's hope I get predicted 4 A*s, and I achieve an A* in my EPQ.

Given these stats, and the fact i just moved to a private school for sixth form as a girl, how likely am I to get in? How can I maximise my chances, and what is good/bad about my application?

Please give me a thorough evaluation on my application and how I am doing in comparison to other successful applicants, and what to do next?

You seem to be doing a ridiculous number of things and have amazing GCSE grades so I think you will be ok. So long as your predicted grades are good I think you will be okay (and write a good personal statement).

Thank you, that is relieving. Do you have any advice on how to improve my grades and get predicted 4A*s? Also, I would really like some advice on useful things to do further to improve my application and make it even stronger.

I would probably just continue with what you are doing at the moment in terms of supercurriculars because you are already doing loads (and have done loads as well). It may be even worth considering dropping one of the supercurricular activities because you need to make sure you have enough time to revise, which brings me on to my main question: how are you revising at the moment?

Just FYI quite a few of the things you've listed are extra-curriculars (super-curriculars are subject-specific/related) :fyi:

I'm no expert on E&M applications at all, but - in addition to all you've done already - you'll need a strong score for the pre-interview test (I believe it's TSA still?). So do make sure you look into that and do any past papers if they're available. You might also consider reading some books relevant to the fields of economics or management (I can't recommend any, I'm afraid!).

The only way to know for sure is to apply! I assume you will do so anyway (as you should), considering the fact that you posted this.

Also btw, things like netball, music, etc. aren’t supercurriculars (as they aren’t related to economics). You should still keep doing them anyway though, as they are brilliant for personal development. Same goes for leadership roles like prefect.

Check if Oxford has an admissions test for your course? Focus on your predicted grades for now, but the moment your EoY exams are over, start prepping for any admissions assessments you may have, as those are super important. Well done on your academic achievements and best of luck!

You will need to sit the TSA section 1 test at the end of October 2025.

TSA (Thinking Skills Assessment) | University of Oxford

Wadham, Hertford, Jesus, New, Worcester and Keble might be colleges at Oxford worth considering applying to, perhaps? 🙂

College Suggester - Oxford University Alternative Prospectus

Also, for your A-Levels, you need to read the examiners' reports and do the IAL papers too, especially since the content is the same as it was from January 2001. 😉 Also, scrutinise the mark schemes and really get to know where the examiner is awarding the marks for the A* grade.

Most importantly, there are several YouTube channels for A-Level Maths and A-Level Further Maths and model answers by the examiners with a URL inside the front cover in the Pearson Edexcel textbooks.

I wonder which optional papers you're studying for A-Level Further Maths? FM1 and FD1? 😧

Slow down. You are taking on too many tasks and your expected A level grades are below what you need. Consider dropping one A level, and reduce your extra-curricular activities. Contrary to what you may have heard, Oxford is not looking for machine-like students who tick as many boxes as they can, and in any event you are currently failing to tick the A level grade boxes.

I would say you are doing amazing things- but make sure what you are doing is due to genuine interest - quality and depth over quantity. When it comes to interview, they may want to delve deep with you on what you have done and what you have learnt.
You are doing lots more than my son, but he was able to engage in meaningful and engaging conversation at interview.
TSA also counts for a lot I think!
Good luck!

If you get the 4 A*S, smash the TSA and smash your interview, you'll get the offer. Coming from a current offer holder, trust me your application is extremely strong, but those three things have to be perfect

thank you. I get how to reach the 4A*s. How can I work well to get a good TSA score and to prep best for my interview?

TSA study guide
Talk to your school about interview prep strategy & if they recommend tutors closer to actual interview time if you get one. Do tsa study all summer and daily til the test. You will learn how tsa tests.

You don't need any tutoring for the interviews. The academics are very very good at pushing you far out of your comfort zone. The interviews were essentially pretty gruelling aptitude tests. However, practice is good (i.e. discussing things with your family, teachers, friends, etc. and/or following mock interviews on YouTube).

I would ignore this poster's college choice advice.
Apply to the college that you like the most and has the facilities, location, rooms, community and feel that best suits you. Your admissions chances for the university as a whole should not be affected by your college choice.

Hi there 👋 may I ask how you got the work experience from those companies? Did you approach them directly or did you find out abt them externally (like a website)

Focus on your a-levels and the TSA. Oxford won't really care about your work experience (unless you can link it back to the degree, I suppose) or extracurriculars (https://oxbridgeapplications.com/blog/extra-super-curricular-activities/).

In my opinion, achieving a perfect or near-perfect score on the TSA would all but guarantee you an offer, so that's what I'm focussing on.
