Experiences with UoN Medicine with Foundation year??

I’ve got an offer for medicine with foundation year at nottingham!! but i’m still quite confused with how to navigate the first foundation year as it is ‘based in derby’ but i can’t find a whole lot of information on it…? Haven’t seen anyone speak about it online either.

I’m unsure whether to find accommodation in derby for the foundation year and then move to Nottingham after? or do most people just apply for accommodation in Nottingham like other first years and commute to derby? (not sure how the commute would work either tbh)

Aside from how this would work in terms of travel and daily life etc, i’m kinda wondering how this would work socially? - would i miss out on the usual first year student life in Nottingham? how would i get involved with stuff like societies if i’m in derby a lot of the time, would i have to wait till my actual first year on the 5-year medicine course…

I’m just questioning whether i’ll have to firm being kind of isolated in derby for a year until i properly start the course the following year, or if i can still experience my “first” year at uni the same way as others if i chose to live in Nottingham and commute.

And on a more practical note, what’s the foundation year actually like? how do you learn, and how many days out of the week would i need to be in derby? i’ve seen people generally say that foundation years are like another year of sixth form / college, but i’m unsure?

if anyone has done this course, i would love to hear some advice and what it’s really like! feeling really clueless right now 🥲

thank you!

i have an offer too, I’ve applied for st Christopher’s court in derby and I think you can stay in Nottingham accom for year 1… not 100% sure but I don’t see why not?
I get what u mean about not having a proper first year experience in Nottingham, but im just viewing it as 2 first year experiences, in two different places.
I think the whole course is in derby, (what ChatGPT says). I also think there’s a bit of ‘clinical contact’ but it’ll be more like shadowing you’ve probably done in year 11/ 12.
Congrats on your offer also!! you can always book an offer holder day and ask student reps when there for more info.

from what I know from my friend at notts that did a foundation in the derby campus, you can still apply for notts accom and spend your time there and there are free hopper buses across campuses

Is there anyone who was in Deakins Place or any nearby campuses who knows how long it takes by bus or train to get to the Royal Derby hospital medicine campus?
