My Experience Living in Clayhill Halls of Residence

Are you looking to live in student accommodation?
What are some of your concerns when living in halls?

Most people decide to live in student halls during that first year of university, either to make some friends or to get the full uni experience!
Likewise, I decided to live in Clayhill during my first year at Kingston Uni, and here is a little bit about my experience and things you should know!😉

Just a short 15 mins walk away from Penryhyn Road campus and Surbiton Train station, Clayhill Halls of residence is much closer to the Penrhyn and Knights Park campuses as compared to the other halls (other than middle mill). One of the things I love about Kingston is how walkable the town is, but if you are running late or walking is not to your taste, then you can always take the free KU bus service as another option
Aside from its convenient location, one of the main reasons I chose Clayhill was because of the ensuite bathroom and smaller shared flats. Compared to its sister halls (Seething Wells and Middle Mill), where you might share a flat with 8 to 12 people, in Clayhill you would only have to share the flat and kitchen among 4 people

Despite its slightly older infrastructure, I didn’t mind living at Clayhill due to its great location and the space and privacy I had during my time there. 🤗 I would recommend investing in some cosy bedding linens and a good duvet to make the space more homey when you move in.
That said, here are some things to note before moving in. The floors of the apartments at Clayhill are mostly carpet (less the toilet and kitchen) so I would recommend packing a pair of bedroom slippers when you move in. Also, the room doors at Clayhill are fire doors and auto-lock whenever they close! So always remember to leave your room with your keys whenever you step out, if not you would have to run to the reception desk to get security to open your door for you! Depending on the configuration of the building, each room may vary slightly in size so remember to check the floor plan before deciding on which room. Although small, the kitchen should include two storage cupboards for you to store your cooking utensils and appliances, along with a shared fridge and freezer.

Considering staying at Clayhill halls of residence? What are some of your concerns when choosing between different halls? Feel free to drop down any questions you may have about accommodation or life in Kingston below 🤗

concerns are the people

Hi @Hotkitty2009

The concern of people is definitely one we all share!

In regards to choosing a certain accommodation here at Kingston, if people are your concern it can be good to see where others on your chosen campus opt to live (normally the closest halls to the campus). This will then help you feel at ease that you are surrounded by others on your course that you might get along with better.

We also have an offer holder day through invite for the 8th of March. If you are set to join us in September and have received an offer- check your email and I would recommend joining us to have a look at some of the accommodations we offer and speak to people about their experiences to gather an overall opinion!

I hope this helped
