Foundation year studies

At uni, is there any sort of discrimination or exclusion of people who study foundation years instead of first year?? I’m scared that when I get to uni (with my foundation year offer) that I’m going to be excluded from benefits that students with a first year offer will have. I applied through ucas for a foundation year at Glasgow uni as it’s my dream uni but was worried about not receiving the grades (AAB) to get in, so the foundation year let me get a lower offer for an extra year (BBB). Because of this, will I not receive the same treatment/not have access to accommodation even though I have a UCAS offer?

Has anyone with a foundation year offer/has been on a foundation year experienced anything like this?

You proceed to Yr 1 after finishing Foundation Year? If so, there is no way your classmates could tell if you come from Foundation.

That’s good then, I just hope during the foundation year I won’t be targeted or harassed for it (as I’ve heard many bad stories about it)

Hi there,

Firstly, congratulations on your offer to study on a foundation programme with the University of Glasgow.

We'd like to reiterate that under no circumstances will you be excluded from benefits having completed a foundation programme. We welcome an abundance of students to UofG who have completed a foundation programme. The Glasgow International College (where you will be the foundation programme) is located on the University of Glasgow campus. Meaning you will have the opportunity to integrate with UofG students and get involved with activities taking place on-campus. The foundation programme should not be viewed as negative. Instead, it's a year to adjust to University life and prepare for your chosen degree the next year.

If there's anything else we can help with, please do let us know!

Thanks,

Thanks so much for the help!! Here are a few more questions I need a bit of help with that you might be able to answer

When applying for student finance and accommodation, do I just put down first year? As there is no explicit ‘foundation year’ or year 0 to choose

Also is there a chance that on results day, if I receive high enough results from my a levels is it possible for me to move to 1st year?

And lastly, what will I be learning in my foundation year, and will there be other UK students as well? Is it common for UK students to take on foundation year at Glasgow uni?
