Confused about conditional offer

Hello, I’ve received a conditional offer from a uni stating “PASS YOUR ACCESS COURSE OVERALL WITH A MINIMUM OF 45 CREDITS AT LEVEL 3” I asked the uni if there is a certain amount of distinctions I need etc but they are taking a while to get back due to being busy which I understand, could anyone clear up for me does this mean I could get all passes for example and still get my place?
Thank you
Hi @Pazcha99 it will depend on the entry requirements for the course. For example, if the entry requirements are 104 UCAS tariff points, you'd need to achieve a minimum 9 distinction and 36 merits from your 45 Level 3 credits. This online calculator may be worth a trying: UCAS Tariff Calculator.
Hope this helps 🙂

I have taught on Access for over 10 years.

If you have been told to 'Pass your access course overall with a minimum of 45 credits at Level 3' means that you require at least passes on all of your assignments. Most programs are made up of 3 subjects referred to as modules with 5 assignments for each which for instance means, 'Sociology - 5 assignments worth 15 credits in total' Psychology - 5 assignments worth 15 credits in total' Criminology - 5 assignments worth 15 credits in total' - as each assignment is worth 3 credits.

Being told to just pass the course is quite rare, although it does happen, particularly if they are looking for evidence of recent study and you already have A levels, a degree or a masters already.

In most instances, you will be given a UCAS tariff target of something like 109 points, which is achieved by a combination of grades. As the other poster highlights there is a calculator on the UCAS website which lets you know what points you get from your grades.

Some areas such as Nursing require a good GCSE English and Maths grade too, Midwifery needs the science GCSE too in most instances.

If in any doubt, speak to the admissions tutor for the University/ies that interest you

NB: "the uni told me that ucas points doesn’t matter when it comes to access courses" - it really does, but you might have been made an unconditional offer and missunderstood

That's certainly not the case at Manchester Met. Hopefully their Admissions will be back in touch with you soon to clarify or maybe they have an alternative way of contacting them that you could try. Hope you get sorted soon 😊

Thank you for that, I contacted them and they replied Please note that Access courses do not carry UCAS tariff points. Therefore, your offer is based on you passing your Access course overall with a minimum of 45 credits at level 3.”

UCAS has an equivalency calculator that will allow you to work out what your Access credits are equivalent to in the UCAS points system (usually associated with school-leaver qualifications).

https://www.ucas.com/applying/you-apply/what-and-where-study/entry-requirements/calculate-your-ucas-tariff-points

Even though the uni doesn't explicitly say they measure access grades against the ucas points system, they do. It's just so that they are comparing apples with apples and can be sure that everyone has the required basic knowledge. So for example, if your course has a 110 tariff entry for school leavers, admissions will convert access grades back to that. Apparently 45 access credits at a pass grade is equivalent to 48 UCAS points, so it would seem very unlikely that your offer is based solely on a pass, unless you have some very very strong work experience or other outstanding X factor.
