Change of course and funding

I started my first fulltime degree in September. I am receiving a maintenance loan. I am only entitled to the tuition fee loan for years 2 and 3, so I have self-funded this year so far.
I want to change course and apply for the BA Social Work at Hull university to start September 25.
Could you please confirm what funding I would receive.
Would I receive the maintenance loan for the full 3 years of the course?
Would I receive the tuition fee loan for Years 2 and 3 of the social work degree?
Thank you.

Hi there,

Is the new course full time?
How many years previous study do you have in total?

Thanks,
Claire

I have just been told by student finance (via the online chat) that SW is an exception course and I will be entitled to full tuition fee loan and maintenance loan but I am not sure if this is correct

Social Work is a full time exception course, but would only be for Maintenance Loan and Supplementary Grants if applicable.

Every student is entitled to funding for the length of their course plus one additional year, minus any previous study. This means if your new course is 3 years and you have done 2 years previous study, the calculation would be 3+1=4-2=2 years left and given in the final years of the course. This means in year 1 you wouldn't get Tuition Fees, but could get Maintenance Loan and Supplementary Grants if applicable.

If you have Compelling Personal Reasons evidence (CPR) why you didn't complete your previous course, you could send evidence of this to see if it's possible to get the Tuition Fees.

The evidence would be a letter on headed paper signed/stamped and dated from someone in profession i.e. Doctor/lecturer who knows the CPR. They must know how it affected your studies and the dates it affected you. Once received it will be up to the assessor if this will be accepted or not.

Thanks,
Claire

My CertHe was a stand-alone course and I did complete it. I was told that because it took me 2 years instead of 1 that meant I lost a year of tuition fee funding.
So basically if I start a new fulltime degree this September, I will be in the same position as I was last September - entitled to full maintenance loan and year 2 and 3 tuition loan?

Yes, correct if you have done 2 years previous study. If you have CPR you can send this as mentioned above.

I have been told I am not entitled to send CPR as my CertHe was part-time and I did complete it (but over the 2 years instead of 1). Can you confirm if this is correct as I am getting conflicting information. Thank you.

Hi, yes if you completed a course then CPR wouldn't be applicable as this is only for years you didn't complete. Thanks, Leah.
