Imperial college london?

i have received an offer to study biological sciences at imperial. i know that it’s an incredible uni but i am worried that i won’t be able to afford to study in london, and also that as it is spread out amongst the city there might be less of a sense of community that i am looking for. does anyone studying there have any advice? thank you for any replies!

Forgive me, but aren't those issues which it would have been more sensible to address before you applied there?

i did consider them of course, i just never thought i would actually receive an offer. now that i have got an offer im of course going to look at the university as an option and ask questions, but as i said previously it was somewhere i didn’t think i would offered a place.

In terms of money, imperial have a really good bursary scheme for home students so definitely look into that. Also, where are you coming from? Maybe commuting could be an option? I’m an offer holder too so can’t say much in terms of the community feel but I know lots of people at London unis and it seems that you’ll be able to find your crowd regardless

I'm in literally exactly the same boat as you, applied for bio, not thinking I'd get in and then got in and now don't want to move to London (i'm from southampton) my parents are also insistent that i wont make friends because we're not rich. i honestly think it will be ok

it’s nice to know that someone else is feeling the same as me 😅 do you think you’ll accept their offer then?

From what I’ve heard from some of my friends’ experiences. The ones who are “rich” tend to be the international students. A lot of home students make friends with home students and they tend to be more down to earth and less snobby

thats nice to hear, i guess that must be true but its 50percent internationals so its still kinda daunting and tbh the other uk applicants ive spoken to are all private or grammar school kids. thanks for the info tho, would your friends recommend it?

tbh i really don’t know either, i feel like it’s too good to turn down. i quite like london but im used to the countryside so im not sure about living there 😂 how have you managed to book the offer holder day, i literally can’t find any information on it anywhere and going to an offer holder day would really help me make my decision!

Yeah i understand that. My friends do recommend it, a lot of them say, that because unis are so big, you bound to find a crowd that you fit into too. It just might not happen straight away. But I'll be honest, they're all (and myself) grammar school kids! i promise we're really down to earth though haha

Some of the international students are lovely to talk to and many of my friends are international! It's true that many keep to themselves but some are very open. I'm state educated and yes it's true that there's a shortage of state educated students at top unis but that shouldn't stop us attending (imo it makes us even more impressive)
