Vet Laboratory work experience

I’m applying for vetmed this year and was interested in gaining Lab work experience in London but can’t find anywhere. Can anyone give recommendations/ any help?

I have worked in research before, and I’ve never seen work experience opportunities in a laboratory setting. Due to health and safety concerns—such as exposure to chemicals, pathogens, and live tissues—most labs require individuals to have a degree or technical training. For this reason, securing a placement may be challenging.

However, you might be able to arrange a shadowing opportunity for a day. I recommend reaching out to universities first—look for biological or veterinary research departments and contact the heads of teams in areas that interest you.

Additionally, some veterinary laboratories provide diagnostic services for smaller clinics (your local vet can tell you where they send their samples). Larger animal hospitals often conduct analyses in-house.
