British Airways Work Experience

Hi guys!

So basically I got an offer from BA for work experience in engineering at the British Airways Head office in Heathrow.

It provided me a lot of dates, and I chose compatible dates that work, so the email said I will get info emailed to me 2 weeks before placement BUT... on the initial description it said I will be considered against all the others who picked the same dates as me (https://apply.ba.com/jobs/vacancy/1594672/descriptionreview/)

So do any of know about this, or have any of you actually got WEx here?

Any help is appreciated! Thank you so much!

been rejected twice, first i didn't spend enough time, most recent time an email came through five days after the 'congrats' one saying that that had been sent in error, i was in fact not through. not really sure how they go about it in all honesty but i'm assuming they must be busy because of the speedbird academy. best of luck, let us know if you get on.

Hi, Thank you so much for your reply, I was getting a bit worried with the silence. I'm so sorry you got rejected, why on earth would they send a congratulations email and then take it back? thats so weird. I will let you know if I manage to get it🤞

Good luck I did ba flight operations work experience which was really fun

Don't be too hard on yourself If you get rejected, lots of people apply and very few get selected.

Just out of intrest where in the UK do you live

I did send in my school approval letter, and they emailed me back telling me they received it, I know how over applied it is, in my fantasy wings conference almost everybody applied for it soo.. Oh also, I live around greenwich

AHH the flight operations sounds really fun, hope you had a great time!

And also the only reason I asked about where you lived was because many of the people on the flight ops work experiece came from very far, from places like exeter and leicester. One guy from york spend £100 on a train ticket and £70 on a hotel just to be there. But for me i live just outside of london so i was just a 30 min drive. Greenwich isnt too far

My passport and stuff are fine, I did see it in the beginning, so I double checked before applying, thanks for the reminder!

As someone who is new to the aviation world, and it also being sponsored from by my school, it was very helpful to learn how aviation as a whole works. I met a lot of great presenters and also made friends for life, so I would recommend it if you are not very familiar with aviation because you wouldn't really learn much if you are an avgeek. The main emphasis on fantasy wings is that aviation is not about just being a pilot, and I really love how they cover most of the aspects of aviation.

Wow! That is absolute dedication from the students and the parents, my parents would never let me do that! Plus for me I could just get the elizabeth line train to heathrow and then go to the head office, I already considered that before applying, its not that bad tbh, but I guess it could be better. But no complaints!

Im lucky to live near Heathrow otherwise my parents wouldn't let me skip school.

Would you like to work in engineering when your older or would you like do something else

For me I want to be a pilot, and also what did you do for your project to apply. I did a presentation on what flying was going to be like In 50 years time

My plan is to study aerospace engineering at cambridge, and then work as an engineer for a few years to earn my money to be a pilot. I'm doing my GCSEs this year so I wouldn't be going to school by this time soo... not really a problem for me.

My project was actually something engineering related, so I put in a video of me demonstrating using one of my robots.

Which year are you in?

yea only problem is will it last till 2027, over the past 3 years (including this year) they have given over 300 places. So they may shut down the programme if they have enough pilots. Im also thinking to into atc as well maybe

Because the population of pilots are ageing, and as global travel is increasing, there is probably going t be more need for pilots than ever, so I think there is a very less chance of it being scrapped, plus its been there since forever, so yk, hopefully they will keep it, but your points are also valid, and in the BBC career aspirations poll being a pilot is now the top 10 preferred profession, so I think there will be more competition later on
